Meet Dr. Nelson Bulmash of Health in Alpharetta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Nelson Bulmash.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Dr. Bulmash. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
At 22 years of age, I was poised to be a serious contender to win the national collegiate powerlifting championship in my respective weight category. I had recently won the Michigan collegiate state powerlifting championship and set three state records while competing. Shortly before the nationals, I had a tragic accident that involved me falling down small flight stairs during an ice storm at the University of Michigan- Flint library. This event would change my life forever. As I lay at the bottom of the stairs in a freezing ice storm, I realized I was left incapable of breathing or moving anything but my eyelids. Eventually, after two or three minutes, I regained my ability to breathe again. I don’t know how long it took me to be able to move other body parts, but do know that I acquired at least a quarter of an inch thick covering of ice over my shoes, pants, coat, and hair.

It appeared that I was the only person left on the campus after my fall. No one was available to help me recover from my incident or get me medical attention. While I initially lay on the concrete incapable of breathing, it occurred to me that I might actually die from respiratory failure or exposure to the freezing rain.

After some period of time, I regained the ability to stabilize my breathing and move most of my body parts. The ordeal sent me into shock, making coherent thought and coordinated movement difficult. somehow, I regained my sense of composure and motor function and hobbled over the campus to my car. Something was clearly wrong with my left lower extremity. I couldn’t get the leg to work properly. As days passed, it became evident that I had serious nerve damage in my lower back and left extremity.

This experience put me on a path marked by years of unrelenting pain and functional impairment. My life became an ordeal of dealing with agonizing daily pain. I refused to be a person who spent his life lying on a couch and watching hour after hour of the latest Sope opera. I became fiercely motivated to find ways to restore and reclaim my life. Finally, it became apparent that the one healing modality that would bring me back from the brink was chiropractic. It was a long road back, fourteen years later, I was still in moderate to severe pain, but clearly heading in the right direction.

This tragic event thought me some very powerful life lessons. The first, never give up! I wouldn’t trade my life with anyone. I have an amazing wife, three extraordinary young adults, who endlessly inspire and bring joy to my life. The second point, with tragedy, can come profound wisdom, learning, and insight. All of these can make one’s life ultimately much richer. Third, since chiropractic care was initially the only professional healing course that brought me relief from pain, improved function, and mood, I decided to spend the rest of my life helping people through chiropractic, by becoming a chiropractor. In time, I would also add the power of naturopathic and nutritional care to help my patients regain an even greater state of recovery and health.

As years passed, it occurred to me that my accident, though very costly on many levels, gave me an inspired conviction to help others, a passion, sense of determination and empathy that would help me become outstanding in helping others recover from serious ordeals involving their health.

I have been in practice for just shy of 28 years and have helped thousands of people recover from all sorts of health challenges, and my own suffering over many years has been an intense driving force that helped me develop my own bodywork system know as Torque Reset. This gentle form of care draws from many other forms of care. It can be gently applied, encompasses spinal, extremity, and soft tissue applications.
As years passed it

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I broke my back in four to six places after a severe fall and was transiently paralyzed, dealt with cancer twice and have now been in remission for 12 years. Nearly went out of business early on in my career due to inexperience as a business owner and doctor. Was condemned constantly in my first five to eight years in practice by the medical doctors and physical therapists in my community. Today, I’m not only accepted as a doctor of choice in my city but see both physicians and physical therapists as patients.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
I am a chiropractor, naturopath, have two diplomates in clinical nutrition, and several advanced certifications in clinical nutrition. We also offer P.E.M.F. therapy ( pulsed electromagnetic frequency therapy) and use the most powerful and sophisticated system available to the public- Pulse XL Pro. This modality has through clinical research been shown to decrease inflammation, increase cellular energy production, mobility, and over bodily function. We offer Focus Unit technology to improve both brain and body function. This device trains the brain through flashing light and pulsating sounds. The use of this technology optimizes brainwave patterns, in the same way, lifting weights makes the body stronger. People report improved mood, concentration, memory, and increased relief from pain and immobility.

I love that we are known for providing outstanding care, service, and compassion. We draw patients from around Atlanta and throughout the United States. We have a waiting list practice, so it’s important to book ahead to ensure you get into our practice and can get future appoints as needed.

I also have a TV, FM radio and podcast show. The show gets out to many countries around the world, multiple FM radio stations, and is seen and/or heard on all major social media platforms worldwide. Recently, I won the Conscious Reporting award for my show, from United Intentions.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My wife, Susan Bulmash, makes everything possible by managing our jointedly own business, Health Matters. She is brilliant and handles all the day to day details required to own and successfully run a busy healthcare practice. We have been married for more than 24 years, while she has managed our practice for over 25 years. I give endless thanks to my mother and father who were two of my greatest sources of love and inspiration, and God for always filling in the blank spaces.
