Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikky Williams.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nikky. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I remember how it felt to emcee my first event at 18 – it was for the cartoon network in my hometown of Atlanta, GA. The vulnerability of being at the mercy of an audience – it was sink or swim. The rush of the unknown and lack of safety nets in live environments would lead to a lifelong addiction to performance, live events and television. I spent five years cheering on my favorite NFL team from the sidelines, the Atlanta Falcons. I used every second of that experience to make contacts in the media and used every opportunity to emcee charity events and sharpen my craft by volunteering for every live TV appearance avail.
After I hung up the poms – I landed my first on camera job with a show on ESPN 2 called “Motoworld” – I interviewed motorcycle enthusiasts and riders at various rallies – then landed a dream gig at turner sports for Nascar 24/7. I was hooked. It was love and by George this is how I was going to make my living. But how? I’m not the prettiest. I’m not the expert-iest. I’m not even represented by a broadcast agent. What I am, however, is easy to work with, no drama, prepared, professional (enough) and fun. The job is fun. Every single event or show I have been involved with has been an opportunity presented to me by referral. I work hard for every producer and director I’ve ever been lucky enough to work with and I have a long resume to show for it. Credits include – seven years with the Atlanta Braves as a host – both on the radio side and in-venue, 12 ESPN x Games as an in-venue on camera host, currently in my third season with the Atlanta Hawks as an in-arena host, second season with the Atlanta Falcons as a host and 6 seasons as an on air personality on TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress” and..you can catch me all season long on football’s “Play to Win” on Fox 5 Atlanta anchoring alongside Atlanta Falcons greats while we breakdown college and NFL games.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all – I’ve been told “No” approx 234567890 times. By almost every single person. Took two of those and walked it out to go after that one “Yes” in the sea of “No”
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m most proud of my perseverance – I made the Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders my 5th time auditioning. In addition to being a host for the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Hawks, X Games. Fox 5 and Say Yes to the Dress – I’ve been a talent agent at the J Williams Agency for the past 18 years, my mother started the agency back in 1981 and we book everything from tradeshow presenters, product demonstrator, emcees, mascots, dancers and BA’s. I’m snoop jobby job!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I love the “now” so much that I rarely even think about my future – to a default I’m sure.
