Today we’d like to introduce you to Alize Doughty.
Alize, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started off dancing at the age of six years old. I started on a competition dance team, that traveled all over the world. When I got into high school, I quit that and auditioned for my high school’s dance team which I danced on throughout my high school years. I took a couple of years off because I had battled a lot throughout my years of childhood. Dance was my get away, it was my safe place. I enjoyed it so much because when I’m dancing, nothing else matters. I would go to dance practice and stay there as long as I could to get away from the problems I was facing. After two years of unhappiness, I knew it was something I was lacking. I let go of everything and just leaped out on faith. I moved to ATL to pursue my dance career and I honestly couldn’t be much happier. Ambition, motivation, hard work which I’m still doing, and faith is what got me to where I am today.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My road has not been smooth at all. I’ve had so many obstacles and situations try to come in and break me down. I’ve had life situations back to back. I had to grow up fast. I had to battle between depression, keeping everything a secret & faking it until I make it. I battled between living arrangements in my family, to have my own, to giving it all up to move. My advice to young women who are starting their journey would be to have faith and know that the road will not be easy. Prepare for the worst in any situation so you can appreciate the good. Stay focused and stay driven.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with your business – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a professional dancer. That is my special gift of life, I like to say. I also Co own a hair company! I am looking into starting my own lines of products but that will be continued later on. I believe my heart, my vibe, and my personality is what sets me apart from others. The self-motivation I have, the spirit I have, and the ability to get back up after I’m knocked down.
There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
Yes! I definitely recommend anybody who’s chasing a dream, starting a business or anything similar to network! Networking is honestly going to be your way out. Find a mentor and listen to them.
