Meet Emenike and Ambrosia Amadi of Amadi Nka Clothing in North Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emenike and Ambrosia Amadi.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Amadinkaclothing was started in 2016 when my wife asked for a sewing machine because she wanted to make home decor items. So I purchased a sewing machine for her as an anniversary gift. It took her a few weeks to finally open the sewing machine and start using it. So one day I decided to use the sewing machine to add a custom pocket to an old shirt. I had never used a sewing machine before so it was a difficult process starting off. I was able to sew the pocket on my shirt and the fabric that I used just so happens to be ankara fabric. Me and my wife both had shirts with matching pockets and my wife added the fabric on her fedora hat and I decided to make a kufi hat. We were so excited about our designs that we took a picture and posted it on social media and we got so many compliments. People started writing us requesting to get the same shirts made. So we decided to turn a hobby into a business and it literally just took off from there.

Has it been a smooth road?
So far it has been a very smooth road and it still amazes us how about how we just started our business off of a social media post and we have been thriving ever since. I would say however the only real challenges we face are, sewing issues like having to replace a sewing machine or a garment not fitting correctly and because we are perfectionist we will start back from scratch. But it’s all a learning experience because the more we see the greater we get at it.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Amadi Nka Clothing story. Tell us more about the business.
Our brand is a cultural fashion brand that makes custom clothing for any occasions. We cater to men women and children. Amadinkaclothing is derived from my African heritage. Amadi is my last name which means a free man in Igbo language, and Nka means art. So combined we came up with free man’s art. The name is expressed through our clothing and the fabrics we use. Ankara fabric is designed with many colors and patterns you can literally see the artistic expression throughout the fabric. Each piece of fabric tells a story and what’s more important is the backstory behind the making of the fabric. We purchase all our fabric from vendors in Different parts of Africa. Most of the fabrics come from Ghana and Nigeria.

Thread are three qualities that sets our business apart from others:
Creative
Exquisite
Cultural

Amadi NKA clothing promises you the best artistic clothing experience, with some of the most exquisite pieces that are handmade and crafted just for you. This is cultural fashion and royalty at its finest.

Our brand is important to us because we are more than clothing designers. Our brand showcases cultural heritage from Nigeria and other places in Africa. To be able to showcase our garments shows diversity within our brand and supports our slogan of “This is cultural fashion and royalty at its finest”.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Our top three goals for our brand are, one to take our business overseas (basically to go international with it.) Secondly, we want to be able to create a household brand that is inclusive of all cultures, not just African attire. Lastly, we would love to have storefronts across America and in Africa and some other countries. We would also like to host our very own annual fashion shows, so the world can see more cultural attire.
