Meet Lonzell Clark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lonzell Clark.

Lonzell, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. I grew up in the urban neighborhood of the 7th ward where it’s not a lot of hope nor people that I could look up to in the film industry. Luckily, I had a lot of friends who were inspiring local musical artists that needed their music to be personified visually. I took that opportunity and decided to start my filming career.

I became dedicated to providing quality content for musical artists to promote their craft to their designed audience. Ultimately, this was a great exposure opportunity for the artists and an even bigger opportunity for me. This was my chance to show off my portfolio for others to see and allowed me to get feedback from different audiences. After starting out creating music videos, I started to think differently and wanted to create content as if it were a movie.

Creating movies for my videos was challenging to conquer alone. I had to acquire new skills on how to make new content as authentic as possible. I decided to add movie-like ethics to the music videos I was creating. I then began gravitating towards short films. I strived to obtain more knowledge about shorts films and began mimicking and studying plots and angles from some of my favorite scripted movies.

After working hard for months, testing and trying out my new ideas, I found myself being nominated for Director of The Year Award at one of the biggest urban events in New Orleans called the NOLA Hip Hop Awards. This was a huge honor to be nominated for something that I taught myself how to do. In retrospect, I started to see people in my city noticing and supporting the work I was creating.

Unfortunately, I did not win the award but it definitely did not stop my ambition. Though this was one of the best things that ever happened to me and it made me more focus than ever before. This is when I knew that this passion of mine, can ultimately take me as far as I want to go. After that moment, I wanted to do more and explore different things so that I can become better at my craft.

In due time, I started taking on different projects and exploring my passion for this industry. I worked on infomercials, social media promotional videos, and events such as weddings. Later, I was offered a job as a film associated with LA New Product Development Team located in Shreveport Louisiana. My position at LANPDT is to plan out infomercials and video content for various businesses that we work with to build their clientele. I saw this opportunity to obtain more knowledge and to take the next step in my journey as a film director.

Working with this company has broadened my opportunities to work with various different people. This past year, I have been working with different businesses with LANPDT and I have helped my team brainstorm ideas and create quality content to bring the clients their business ideas to life.

My overall dream for entering this field is much more than filming, it is about inspiring others that come from the same background and environment as me. I want to show others that no matter the circumstances you are currently in, you can rise above and fulfill your wildest dreams.

I want to inspire other people who has a passion for filming and let them know that it is possible to achieve anything if you are willing to work hard for it. That alone has been my overall purpose in life and through filming, this is how I can get the world to see my vision.

I aspire to be a movie director and I am dedicated to making that dream come true and become one of the greatest film directors known to date.

Has it been a smooth road?
I can definitely say it has and hasn’t as times. Understanding that if you don’t come from a background of structures businesses that can help you along the way, you have to sacrifice who you use to be for the new person that comes with building a business and also creating generational wealth. I would say now that I understand the process and how long it takes to build a successful business has me in love with my process. I want to learn from all mistakes and implement bigger and better plans to get me closer to all my goals in film.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Lonzell Clark Films is a multi-media company specializing in music videos, infomercials, documentaries, shorts and plenty more. I strive to create creative visuals pleasing content. I’m most proud of myself for never giving up and learning from everything that I’ve been through in business. I would say what sets me apart from others would be the reason why I’m doing this in the first place. I come from a place where it can close you in of you’re not strategic about moving to the next level.

That was my biggest motivation to build myself up to be where I’m at today. There was no one to look up to during the time I picked up a camera. I will be the guy to change that. I will help new and young upcoming talent in film to have proper guidance while performing these skills. I think this will help the city I was raised in tremendously by fixing the problem of knowledge that needs to be giving. This kind of work will also change generations to come.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I definitely love Atlanta. It’s a place to build with more like-minded people but also grow your brand to more businesses and people. I would recommend to anyone to start exactly where you are and if the universe aligns itself to you and your plans, then do relocate. Atlanta is a great place for new beginnings and new great adventures for whatever type of business you are currently in.
