Today we’d like to introduce you to Tejai Moore.
Tejai, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a singer, songwriter, record producer, company owner, and publisher. I’m blessed to be living in my Purpose now, but I wasn’t always where I am and I’m still not where I’m going to be. I began my career in Germany, where I grew up and finished my High School years. My mom and dad were both in the Army. We, my family, are from Miami though. In the beginning of my career, which was about 2002 (in Germany), I was focusing on being an artist and growing in that. I wasn’t working in the business or anything like that as it was literally the “beginning”. After gaining “buzz” in Germany and performing on tour-date with B2K in Munich, the bar of aim was set; High. At that time, my Dad was my manager.
Years later via someone liking my style and writing direction of songs of my own, I received my first songwriting opportunity and placement in 2007 with a female Pop artist in UK through working with, now Platinum-producers, Da Beatfreakz who are also based in UK (London). Since then, I’ve co-written “One In A Million” by Jacquees with them on the production and many other records.
So, about 2007 is when I actually began working in the Music Industry and I then began to be known as a Songwriter just as much as an Artist(singer). Since then, I have been signed to a single-deal with Universal which had a video of mine airing on VH1 and more, I’ve performed and opened alongside some of the industry’s greatest artists on the “big stage”. I’ve worked internationally as a songwriter and producer with major labels in the different countries. I’ve opened a business of my own, Moore Muzik, LLC in 2016 in which I’ve had some extraordinary artists aboard whose done some amazing things before, during, and after being with Moore Muzik, all while I’ve been simultaneously continuing forward as an active artist in my Calling; unsigned.
From 2002 to 2019 (now) would be a long, long story but I can sum it up to say that if it weren’t for God, I don’t know where I would be. In 2002, my Purpose was revealed to me in a way that many would have looked at as the end of something, but for me it was the beginning of everything that I am and will be. A lot of my story is unknown but musically, it isn’t unheard. Most recently, stemming from Moore Muzik, I am currently a part of a production/songwriting duo (Bryt Sydes) with my partner Jay-mo Dejon. We are actively working in U.S. in our separate careers and lanes but also together in UK and are a part of some of the biggest records there over the last two years, one of which just has been Brit-certified Silver (200K copies sold) in the UK a couple of months ago. That record is “Pumpy” by Da Beatfreakz feat. Cadet, AJ, Deno, and Swarmz. The song was released by Sony Music UK. Holding that plaque in my hands literally brought tears of joy because as said, many people don’t know what I’ve been through to reach this point, nor what I go through.
I have also recently been songwriting on upcoming album of former G-Unit R&B artist, Olivia. I have to say that working on her album has been such a process because she pushed me to express myself in my writing so deeply, in ways that no one else has. She calls me her “Sauce Partner” (haha). She’s such a beautiful Spirit and beyond talented. She keeps me laughing, but when it’s time to work, it’s time to work. No games played. I know many last recall her from being on Love and Hip Hop or on a few movies and has wondered where she’s been, but this album will remind them that she’s more than a reality-tv star and I’m blessed and grateful to have worked on it with her directly. The album is so Saucy.
Working in the Music Industry is not an easy task, but neither is life in general and that’s why I keep going. I’m not doing this for myself. Everything that I have done since 2002 is bigger than me. This is for God, for my family, and to help those who I may be able to… even if I’m just a stepping-stone or a bridge to help someone crossover into the next steps of their journey that may not even have anything to do with me at that point. That’s what I’m about and that’s what Moore Muzik is. Faith in Him got me here, and Faith in Him will get me There.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy road. I don’t think anyone who’s working in this Industry can honestly say that. The further along you go, the more you will go through and be tested with. I mean, for instance, the level of difficulty of Middle School compared to University is quite intense, you know. But, if you want to succeed in University, you knew that the hard work was coming and all you can do is keep Faith, focus, know that you may fall at times, but also know that you will get up. No question.
My struggles have been many, but one of the main is keeping in mind that I am enough, even when others don’t treat me like it; remembering that I’m not defined by someone else’s lack of love or support for me. I mean that professionally but also personally. As an artist, songwriter, and producer being motivated and inspired is important and sometimes people’s energy towards you can harm that. I’m transparent and I can admit that I’m not numb to those kinds of things, but I also admit that I am strong in Faith which keeps me going. The battles aren’t mine, they’re God’s; in His hands.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Moore Muzik – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Moore Muzik has been running since 2016! I’m so grateful to have begun the company and have so many things in mind for it. We are a Publishing Company but also an independent Record Label. I’m happy about a lot of things that we’ve done for the artists who’s been aboard as well as things in my artistry-career. Via Moore Muzik, no major label, my debut album (Write My Wrongs) in 1st quarter of 2018 charted on iTunes (all-genre charts) in France and also U.S. That lead to a physical distribution deal which now has my album, “Write My Wrongs” and a former-Moore Muzik artist’s album available in stores like Wal-mart, Target, Barnes & Nobles, and many other stores.
What sets me apart from others is that I’m here to win and winning for me is not about beating others. It’s about beating and overcoming my hardships, struggles, circumstances, all while continuing forward for myself, but even more for those around me and even more for God.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My aims are to continue forward, continue forward, and continue forward. I don’t know what that looks like because I don’t know what He has planned, but I do know forward is in that plan. I’m grateful for the big steps just as much as the steps that people overlook.
