Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenya Mays.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a former corporate overachiever who turned full-time CEO. My journey started in Detroit, Michigan and made its way to Columbus, Ohio due to a promotion with my former employer. Business and Finance have always been my first love and I thoroughly enjoy it. Growing up, I always “played it safe” and that caused me to stay in Corporate America longer than I would have liked. Becoming a mother to a child diagnosed with diabetes, another child needed more emotional support, and our baby girl entering kindergarten, made it clear that it was time to make my own way.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There is a mindset shift that has to happen when transitioning from employee to employer. This was something that I struggled with as I had been the employee for so long. Getting used to setting my own hours, accepting only my ideal clients and finally, the realization that I am worthy of this opportunity took some to get used to.

Being a wife and mom of three, I constantly found myself trying to make sure that I was fulfilling my duties in my home life as well as giving my business the attention that it needed to grow. I had many long nights as a result of this juggling act, however, I am grateful for it.

Please tell us about Kenya Mays Consulting.
Kenya Mays Consulting is a Management and Consulting Firm that specializes in helping develop and scale the business ideas of an aspiring entrepreneur. We believe that there is a part-time CEO inside of everyone and with that, you can create another stream of income. From the inception of the business to the customization, and back end operation, we are there!

We are known for birthing profitable passions. I am most proud of having a faith-based company that is focused on integrity. This sets us apart from others because we make sure to focus on planning and execution. We stand firm on the principle that you will succeed as long as you “Don’t Think, Just Do. This is a phrase that keeps you accountable and gets you out your own way.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had the chance to start over, I would have not waited as long to step out on faith. I would have trusted the talent that was rooted inside of me and listened to the signs that were given. I had everything that I needed to succeed and allowed fear to keep me stagnant.
