Today we’d like to introduce you to Ralisha Hawkins.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ralisha. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The mantra that I have accepted this year is Wife. Mom. Boss. I try to embody all three in how I carry myself each day. I am a working mother in corporate America with a side hustle and a non-profit passion. As a Corporate Training Specialist, I facilitate new employee orientation as well as conduct technical and leadership training. It is my job to set individuals up for success. This carries over into my passion… Project We Care, Inc.
Project We Care, Incorporated, is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit organization centered in Atlanta, Georgia and branching throughout the Southeast. Our mission is to educate, encourage, and support. We value our community, and by acting with courage and challenging the status quo, we plan to be the change we would like to see. Project We Care has been the pivotal point for me, as the Director of Projects I have been able to develop professionally while giving back. Through the non-profit, I have been able to own the strategic planning and execution of our community initiatives. Our projects include annual holiday gift donation and delivery initiative, annual luncheon for teenage girls to focus on loving yourself, annual charity dinner, as well as teenage boy’s event. I pride myself on coordinating with internal and external resources for the execution of projects by maintaining community relations.
I have been able to truly grow through my work with Project We Care. Since 2014, we have sponsored 35 families with 56 children for the holiday season, mentored over 450 youth through our empowerment events, renovated a school in the West End of Atlanta and fed over 1,000 homeless through our monthly volunteer initiatives.
As I encouraged and empowered others, I discovered a passion that I have for graphic design. I started by designing flyers for the non-profit as well as my local church. It quickly expanded and grew into RH Designs, my “side hustle”. Recently, I have also become the Creative Director for Pretty Boss LLC, and empowerment platform for the millennial businesswoman. During my time with Pretty Boss, I have expanded my graphic design business through connections that I’ve made.
Working a “9-5”, spending time developing a non-profit, taking on new clientele for graphic design work, being a Pretty Boss, and more importantly being a wife and mother is not an easy juggle but I am able to maintain and thrive through being grounded in my faith and family.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Time management has been the biggest hurdle for me. As a wife and mother, you want to devote all of your time to your family. As a working woman, I want to show my employer how I am results-driven and move my way up the “corporate ladder”. As a community leader, I pour myself into our non-profit’s projects. Balance can feel foreign oftentimes. I’ve spoken with other working mothers and joined social groups that support the empowerment and entrepreneur spirit of the woman, and I’ve been able to find solace in having people who understand the struggle.
I am still pushing each day to ensure that I have a balance between all of the hats that I wear. Prioritizing my family is what is most important to me.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about RH Designs – what should we know?
My business is RH Designs. I specialize in designing logos, flyers, and digital designs.
RH Designs can also create t-shirt designs, video animation and editing, promotional material for social media, business cards. I also curate marketing email designs.
As the Creative Director for Pretty Boss LLC, I have been able to utilize the services of RH Designs to create promotional videos as well as event recap videos. I am most proud of my work on the Pretty Boss social media material.
RH Designs has donated time and services to Project We Care, Inc. through promotional flyers and social media infographics.
What sets me apart from others is how I am able to integrate all that I do with my passion for graphic design.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
As I am continuously growing personally and professionally, I think it is important to understand how to recover quickly when you make a mistake or if a project does not go exactly as planned. I do not have the time to wallow or sulk when something is not perfect. I have to be able to pick up and keep moving, recognize that mistake and make sure to take personal notes to not repeat that mistake again.
