Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Beck.
Amber, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a certified health and wellness coach and podcaster. I started my business by “accident.” I lost a good bit of weight in 2018 in preparation for my best friend’s wedding. A few people started asking me how I did it, so I started a group chat and used it to help a few friends. I would have them send me their meals. I would send them healthy recipes and check in with everyone. I just wanted to keep them accountable with their eating habits. I started a podcast as a way to extend the conversation to women outside of our community. Women all over can be empowered by some of the discussions we have. I’m a perfectionist, so I eventually wanted to do more. I wanted to invest in them and help them invest in themselves, so I started weigh-ins and workout challenges to keep them motivated and on track. I turned it into a business after I realized how much money I was investing while trying to make the program unique and valuable. I wrote down all the ways I wanted to help women, and I created a program. I wanted to really put my all into the program, so I went back to school and got certified as a health and wellness coach through Emory University.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy at all. I initially struggled with the transition of dealing with friends on a professional level versus a personal one. There were some boundaries that had to be put in place, and that was not easy. I also struggled with the certification class. I really wanted to just quit. It was so hard. I tell people that getting my certification was tougher than getting my Masters Degree. I was working a full-time job, trying to continue to run my business, and going through things in my personal life as well. I cried a lot. There were also a few days that I questioned if I needed to invest so much into this. I didn’t really know if I would ever see a return on my investment. I was really struggling with a lot of self-doubt.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Killin’ It Queendom is a virtual empowerment community that helps women reach their healthy lifestyle goals. We support women holistically. We focus on the woman as a whole, so we work on mental health, finances, everything! We also offer ketogenic and low-carbohydrate support and guidance. We welcome women of all stages of their lifestyle journeys. Essentially, we assist women in getting to the point of genuinely living their best lives. We are a community, so we help hold each other accountable, and we “adjust each other’s crowns” when they start to fall. We meet up once per month, so we are really able to build camaraderie. I have clients that met through the program and are now working out together regularly. Some beautiful friendships have been born in the program. I get emotional thinking about it. Having someone who knows what your goals are, and has similar goals, just makes the journey smoother. We really just love each other to health!
