Today we’d like to introduce you to Bree Moore.
Upon applying for college, I questioned my career path thinking more of the finance aspect…I wanted to make money! I considered just taking the healthcare route, but after serious thought, and being inspired by the most creative woman I knew, my granny, I followed my heart! I had applied to the Savannah College of Art and Design, Clark Atlanta University, and Eastern Kentucky University; being nervous of the distance away from family, I chose the safe decision of attending Eastern Kentucky University, where I studied Fashion Design and Merchandising. Attending EKU, I had very few opportunities but those few opportunities forced me to take it up a notch, and a take of leap of faith into my current city, Atlanta, GA.
This road has not been smooth at all but has been totally worth every barrier that has come my way. I grew up in a single-parent home with tremendous guidance and support from my grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Whenever anyone asks with no hesitation, my family has been my biggest motivation to press forward; they are my ROCK! I wanted better not only for myself but for them!My move to Atlanta was scary at first; new city, only knowing a few people, trials and tribulations, you name it. The transition was definitely discouraging but motivating at the same time. Moving here and staying here was heavy on me because it was a time when one of the most important people to me, my grandfather, had become sick. Everyone that knows me knows that he was my best friend, LITERALLY, so the distance was hard. In 2017, I took the biggest loss of losing him, and it had weighed in on me from that period forward. I was not the same, and my motivation was gone. Depression, anxiety, you name it! There were so many times where I felt like packing up and just giving up on my dreams but, God kept me here for a reason. I keep his past conversations as a tool for motivation still to this day. After many trials and errors, my pace began to pick up. I could not even begin to tell you how many “No’s” I have heard. However, since being here I learned shortly that those “No’s,” were just “Not yet’s,” because God has surely been blessing me!
I landed a job for Nordstrom working in visual merchandising which had allowed me to get back into my passion for fashion. I met many people but one encounter led to a position in the Tv/Film industry. This was the moment I had been waiting for! At this time I took another huge leap of faith; I had submitted my resignation from a secure, full-time position and decided to pursue my dreams full time. I had began working in the wardrobe department for one of the most popular television shows, Greenleaf. My advice to anyone struggling with comfort zones is to pray about it, listen to God LITERALLY, and move when he tells you to. When it’s your time, it’s your time!
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am currently working in the costume department for the show, Black Lightning. I have been fortunate enough to be in the room with many moguls in the film industry. I also have been fortunate enough to be living out loud my stylist, and creative dreams in an entire different aspect. I have aspirations of becoming a costume designer in the future, which is why I have been studying and taking mental notes from those already established in that position. I also part-time work as a wardrobe stylist and build style boards for clients. This is an area that I want to enhance and spend more time on. Although my schedule has been crazy busy (Thank you God), I still have plans of rebranding myself and relaunching my previous businesses, and actually being more consistent. Securing multiple incomes, and building for my current family, and future is the absolute main goal. I will break the generational curse in my family! I stand firm on helping others, with everything in me, and I want to continue to be that person that is available to encourage someone. Because a lot of people lack support in following their dreams, I want to extend my support to everyone. For these reasons and any wardrobe styling tips/services, I can be reached at: bmoorestyles12@gmail.com
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I do not believe in luck at all. I have learned over the years that God has a plan ordained and established for everyone. Every experience has not been golden for me. However, I know for a fact, whenever I was down I was able to pick myself back up. I owe everything to the man above, because He is putting me in positions that I could not reach on my own.
