Meet Jasmine Daniel of My Life As Jazz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Daniel.

Jasmine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
From the age of six years old, I grew up in Pleasant Grove, AL and my parents were the directors of the media ministry at our church in Birmingham, AL for several years. I grew up watching my parents work tirelessly in the church media room creating video promos, editing the church television broadcast and more. I was always so intrigued therefore I’d say that the love for media is in my blood. After watching a plethora of YouTube videos back in 2011 as a young 15-year-old, I eventually began my own YouTube journey in June of 2019. In 2011, I remember searching YouTube one day for videos on how to do a simple eyeshadow look that I’d planned to wear for an event. I wasn’t very experienced with makeup and doubted I’d find anything to help me, but to my surprise I actually found a few videos that taught me how to do eyeshadow that day! From that one initial search, I instantly fell in love with YouTube and everything about it. I was fascinated by the idea of creators having the opportunity to create their own unique content to teach, entertain, encourage, motivate, and inspire their audience. I watched and studied how creators engaged with their subscribers and how they worked tirelessly for hours to produce phenomenal content.

Over the years, I continued to watch YouTube and before I knew it, I had learned the “ropes” of YouTube without realizing it. I also, at a young age, realized that I had a concern for young women like me who were struggling with insecurity, self-consciousness and low self-esteem. Young women dealing with heartbreak and those needing help discovering their God-given purpose. I wanted to reach those who needed advice on journeying through life’s disappointments and the many other challenges that young women face in this world. Although the desire to create my own YouTube channel came in 2018, I allowed my fear of other’s opinions to get in my way. But after sharing my desire with my parents, they encouraged me to go for it, and on June 16th, 2019, I uploaded my very first YouTube video. My YouTube channel is a faith-based channel where I create encouraging videos, beauty videos, lifestyle videos, and vlogs. I want people to be able to see how living for Christ doesn’t have to be a boring life lived by a strict rule book. Instead, God wants us to experience the very best in life and have the very best in life! He wants us to have fun, laugh, reach our goals, be happy, fall in love and ultimately realize that all things are possible to those who believe!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although my journey has been amazing so far, it has not been an easy one. Being that I just got engaged on June 1st of 2019, I have honestly found it to be a bit challenging when planning for a wedding, planning for the future, going to work, working out in the gym, editing and uploading regularly on YouTube, all while still having to make time for family and friends. Many times, life gets in the way and I’m not always able to control my recording or upload schedule; and technical difficulties can sometimes become frustrating too. However, I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world. I love what I do because YouTube is my passion. I am dedicated to it and I try my absolute best to be consistent for my subscribers anyhow because I know that it will be worth it in the end!

Please tell us about My Life As Jazz.
I am a YouTuber and the name of my channel is “My Life as Jazz”. I decided to give it this name because for one, by my name being Jasmine most people tend to call me “Jazz”. And secondly, I simply use my platform to be open and share my life with my viewers. Through my YouTube channel, I invite my viewers into my world to experience life with me and to join the fun of making memories with me too! I record videos of me uplifting my subscribers, videos where I talk about trending topics in the world today, funny videos, makeup tutorials, and I’ve even recently started a new vlog series titled “Wedding Diaries”, where I take my subscribers along with me as I prepare for my wedding. Being the granddaughter of one of Birmingham’s most prominent pastors, Dr. Willie B. O’Neal, I can honestly say that I’ve inherited his sincere heart for people. Therefore, I’m most proud of the difference I can see that my videos are making in the lives of my subscribers. When people leave comments underneath my videos telling me how something I’ve said helped them to feel better or how entertained they were, or how I inspired them, it literally fuels me to produce more content for them. My only hope is that over time, my channel continues to grow and reach more people, not for attention or for fame, but to simply continue to bring hope to those who may be going through a hard time. I personally know what it feels like to be down, come across someone’s YouTube video and feel a thousand times better after watching it, so it is my desire to be able to do the same for someone else as someone did for me.

If you had to start over, what would you have done differently?
If I had to start over, I definitely would start my YouTube channel much sooner! Nevertheless, I’m extremely proud of what I’ve accomplished thus far. I worked really hard undercover before the official release of my channel and it has truly helped me in the long run. There is also one other thing I may have done differently and that is to find better ways to manage my time. Considering the fact that I have so much on my plate, I would spend more time figuring and planning out a more productive way to be able to do everything that I enjoy fully and efficiently.
