Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Corn.
Brittany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been a fan of anything different and artsy if you will, I didn’t particularly choose or even think Makeup Artistry would be my career path. I started doing makeup around the age of 18-19, I went to cosmetology school, graduated & got my license. I did make up for a while, freelancing myself as BrittanykMUA, I worked at MAC cosmetics, did weddings the whole nine yards. Then I just stopped, I sold thousands of dollars’ worth of products, tools, donated some to local aspiring artist around Columbus. I was scared of failure, I was young and as any young adult I did not have my complete focus on makeup and doing the things I needed to pursue it as a full time career. I am now 25 almost 2 years later, about 6 months or so ago something in my gut told me “Brittany get up and do what you love”. I slowly started to pick up my brushes and practice, dive into makeup again, but it wasn’t easy I had to reteach myself a lot of things but I wasn’t giving up. I decided to rebrand myself and do everything with a fresh start and different and that’s where The B Word came from. You look at my name and of course when you see it you instantly think “the b word”, but that’s where you’re wrong. The B Word is more than just an artist, she finds queens inner Beauty too. Today’s society and social media has trained our brains to believe you’re supposed to look a certain way and that beauty is a certain way, and I’m here to try and change that. Not only do I want what I create to see your beauty but I also want to make you feel your beauty too. I have so many things I want to do with The B Word, so hold on tight because this is only the Beginning.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I work 2 other jobs, one being late night into the morning that sometimes leaves me with no sleep before weddings and clients. I’ve struggled a lot with comparing, as a lot of people do. I’ve struggled with learning that I have to reestablish who I am. I’ve struggled with being SO impatient because things are not working in the timely manner I want it to, but this journey is taking me to so many awesome opportunities I am Slowly but surely learning how to just breathe and know my hard work is going to pay off
Please tell us about The B Word.
What does everyone think when someone says the b word…..exactly!
Let me tell you what “The B Word” means
The Queen B herself is Beautiful, Boastful, Bodacious, Brilliant, Bright etc … She is an example of what all women of any kind should hold themselves to be! As a makeup artist I choose to lead by this example and help each and any Queen find their inner “B”!
I feel like who I am as an artist and how I use my platform is what sets me apart from other artist.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Climbing in the huge tree in my sisters front yard, throwing a rope attached to a cooler with Dr Pepper liters in it over a tree limb and pulling it up to where we would sit in the tree, and then one day we saw a spider in that tree that we played in for years… and never climbed it again.
