Meet Vera Ilyushina of Lark Chamber Music in Kennesaw

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vera Ilyushina.

Vera, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The long story is that I decided to be a violinist when I was 5 and a half years old. I still remember the snowy January evening when I saw a violin in a lighted window of a music shop and knew instantly where my heart belonged. I was always fascinated with every aspect of being a musician: playing in the orchestra, performing solo and as a part of a chamber group, and teaching. Since my husband and I moved to Atlanta in 2000 I was able to be a part of Atlanta’s fine orchestras: Atlanta Ballet, Atlanta Opera and ASO, and having a successful performing and teaching career. One thing that seemed to be missing was chamber music. So, fast forwarding to 7 years ago, I decided to start my own chamber group.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are always challenging moments, but I am blessed with incredible musicians who play at the highest level no matter how important a performance is. That integrity has always been most valuable to me. I also seem to have the most amazing clients who truly appreciate the high quality of performance that we strive to achieve.

Lark Chamber Music – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Lark Chamber Music is a group of musicians who perform at private events such as weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and corporate events. We offer different ensembles that suit our client’s vision for their event. We also tailor our repertoire to the theme and feel of an event, so that every engagement will have a unique playlist.

I am very proud that after 7 years of being in business we primarily rely on referrals from former clients and event planners and venues for future bookings. I also feel that our versatile repertoire and a very high level of performance sets us apart from the competition.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I believe that a true success is when you wake up every morning excited about your work, and when you love what you do. It is also an ability to say “no” to engagements that are not a good fit for your business.
