Meet Nicole Matta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Matta.

Nicole, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey as a makeup artist started off when I was in high school. I loved makeup and my first experience with quality makeup was when I turned 16. My mother had purchased me some Mac makeup and from there I was hooked! When my senior prom came around, I made an appointment to get my makeup done at the local Mac counter and that was my first time.

Getting my makeup professionally done. I continued to come back for every event and said one day I am going to work here. Fast forward two years later, I was officially employed with Mac as a part-time artist. It was the best experience of my professional career and I learned so much valuable skills. Nothing made me happier than seeing brides so happy with their makeup on their wedding day or watching how excited the young ladies looked in the mirror when they were prom ready! In 2010, I finally left my small hometown of Monterey, California and traveled up north to Sacramento, California where I lived for five years. I had the chance to work in Sacramento fashion week as a makeup artist and also was published as a makeup artist for the first time! In 2015, I made the choice to join my family in Atlanta, Georgia and left everything in California behind. Moving out here was the best decision for my career. I once again was published in Sheen Magazine and had the opportunity to do makeup for one of my favorite singers Syleena Johnson! All in all, I am blessed that I have been able to continue my craft for the past 16 years and I look forward to the future and where my job takes me!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has not been as easy as I thought it would be. Atlanta has all the glitz and glam but when it comes down to it it’s all about who do you know. I never realized how oversaturated the market was out here and I struggled trying to find my place in this community. It still is an uphill battle but I continue to make connections and always stay connected with people I meet on a regular basis!

Please tell us about Makeup by Nicole Matta.
When it comes to myself and my business, my specialty is natural glam…over the years, I have worked with so many models and photographers that I know what it takes. To get beautiful shots when it comes to makeup. I find that my skill set is rather different than a lot of artists out here and my Artistry is quite different as well. I am very comfortable working with every age and race and I feel that sets me apart.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from my childhood is traveling to Hawaii with my Oma to visit my mom and sister. I spent a whole summer in Maui and til this day I have the fondest memories of that trip!
