Today we’d like to introduce you to Debra Schreibman.
Debra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in a small town in Glastonbury, CT. I attended UCONN and achieved a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and attended STCC where I got my associates degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA). I moved to Georgia in February of 1998 and began working as an OTA. I loved being an OTA however, I wanted more autonomy so I could impact more people’s lives so I got my certification in Massage Therapy/Neuromuscular Therapy and went on to get my Doctorate in Chiropractic at Life University. I opened my practice, Lake Pointe Wellness Center in Acworth where I lived, in February of 2004 and have been practicing there ever since. I have had the great honor of serving my community and impacting our health for over 13 years! We offer chiropractic care, massage therapy, acupuncture, nutritional and exercise counseling and we now offer a very comprehensive functional wellness program where we are helping people who are really sick get better. I started to transition in to functional wellness when I myself was diagnosed with hyper thyroid and endometriosis and the doctors only solution for me was dangerous drugs and surgery which did not sit well we me. So, I decided to take things into my own hands and find a safer more natural resolution to these two problems. In many cases, for example someone who has type 2 diabetes, if we figure out the underlying cause of the diabetes, and we clean out their bodies, balance out their hormones and balance their blood sugar they can actually work with their medical doctors to get off of their diabetes meds and blood pressure meds and cholesterol meds and thyroid meds. Often times we see people’s energy levels get better, we see them start sleeping through the night without waking up, we see them LOSE WEIGHT, we see people who have suffered from migraine headaches for most of their lives have no more headaches, and we see women who are suffering from menopausal symptoms eliminate those horrible symptoms. I just finished writing my own book called “Your journey to Wellness, Creating Ease Through Preventative Care” You will be able to find it on Amazon after 6/17/17. I am very fortunate to be able to impact our community in such an enormous way!!! In my off time, I have an amazing husband and 13 yr. old son with whom I love to ride bikes, go to yoga, cook, go to movies and so much more.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I think I have had most of the same struggles small business owners have. Where will I get my patients from? How do I bill insurance companies? How do I do marketing? How am I going to pay my bills? I was a single mom for many years… how do I balance work and personal life? I battled endometriosis, pre cancer, hyper thyroid and pre diabetes. I fought to get well and stay well. But I think all of these struggles have made me really appreciate the times when I am healthy and when finances aren’t such a tremendous weight on my shoulders. It has also taught me that life isn’t always easy but if I have my health and my family nothing else really matters. Tangible objects like cars and purses and designer clothing don’t mean a thing unless you have your health! Health must come first! You only have one life.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lake Pointe Wellness Center – what should we know?
But I think the thing that I am most proud of is always putting my patients and family first. I am very proud of the solid business I have grown which gives me the ability to give back to my community and I do this often by donating my time and my staffs time at schools and school functions and when there is a local family in need. We are 12 employees and we all love what we do. I can’t imagine doing anything else. My staff has the biggest hearts and all they want is to help our patients get better. I specialize in functional wellness and turning people’s lives around. We see women, men and children with all types of issues from scoliosis, headaches, low back pain, foot pain, elbow pain, shoulder pain, plantar fascitis, tennis elbow, neck pain, overweight people, people with insomnia, menopausal women, and much more. We are a one of a kind wellness center!
