Meet Shelby Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Green.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Shelby. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
How I began: The first 11 years of my life we have considered what most people call “Middle-Class”. Then, at age 11 my grandfather died and my parents went through a divorce, everything happened all within three months. This period was difficult for us as my mom lost her job, and I did not live with my dad. After this point, we lived in poverty up until college, and I knew which path I wanted for myself and my family. I have experienced both a more comfortable life and a less comfortable life, and in college, I wanted to study money so I never ended up back in an uncomfortable position ever again. I also did not want anyone else to end up in those positions, so I got a degree in Finance. This started my journey to becoming a financial planner. Fast forwarding to today, both of my parents are living off of social security and having to go back to work in their 70’s due to a lack of proper financial planning. My mission is to make sure nobody ends up in those positions they could have avoided if they had proper planning.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There is never a smooth road in business, it is a bumpy ride with 1 destination that has to be reached. Some struggles included sometimes having to switch companies, having no pay for some months, and even health deteriorating while I am operating my business, causing us to slow down operations. Now we are independent and no longer have the same struggles, but we always will have struggles of our own.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a financial planning firm. We specialize in financial coaching and also key topics such as Retirement strategies, debt reduction, tax strategies, risk management, budgeting, and savings goals. We work primarily with those in the medical field, but we do not shy away from helping other millennial’s off to a good start on their financial future. What sets us apart is our coaching aspect and the fact that we work very closely with our clients, multiple times a year. This allows us to be a part of their family and their portfolio beyond just working numbers. I am there for every phase of my client’s financial future, and we do not shy away from difficult conversations that we need to have with our clients. We are known in the market for our strategies to help others build and preserve wealth. Most people have a plan, perhaps even a financial advisor. However, what most people lack is a strategy that goes beyond chasing a percentage integer.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I always loved playing sports. I picked up and played mostly basketball, but I was an outdoors kid. I was never shy and usually tried to be the center of attention. I played basketball throughout my childhood even in high school and beyond. My interests were mostly Basketball, Spades, and Hip-hop dancing. I always wanted to be a businessman and work in the stock market as a future professional. Any money I received I would dabble into the stock market just to play with it and see how my money could grow.
