Today we’d like to introduce you to Shevis Harris.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shevis. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 2012 I was diagnosed with gallbladder disease due to poor eating. I was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery to have gallbladder remove. That experience was the most terrifying experience I’ve ever had to encounter. I was told to start a very strict clean diet going forward and to incorporate exercise. Once released from the hospital. I started changing my diet. Tried to hire a personal trainer. The trainers were so expensive. I started training myself. I would go on YouTube and watch how to do certain exercises based off what area’s I wanted to work on. I made a workout routine for myself for the week. I also research how to meal prep and do meal planning. I did this on my own for about one year. People who knew me saw the results and ask what I was doing and who I was working with. I told them that I did everything on own with no one helps. People started asking for help, I started to do seminars on how to eat clean, I started to do group work out session at my local community center based in Kennesaw. I decide this was my passion and I wanted to do this full time I knew I needed credentials. I studied at NASM(National Academy of Sports Medicine), where I received my Certification in both as a Nutrition coach and a Certified personal trainer. Now I have a company name Shapes by Shevis fitness is a lifestyle. My company has been around for now for three years. I work within my community and through social media.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was definitely a struggle the first year. Clients was defeated mentally. Clients wanted to see results fast and I explain that it takes dedication, determination and hard work. The end results are so rewarding. I had to come up with a strategy that would help motivate and help with the work. I would do incentives like a spa, challenges, and my all-time favorite client of the month. My advice to women of all ages, particularly young women. Is to go through every emotion while pursuing your career no matter what it looks like or feel like stick to your script and don’t quit. Like my favorite leader the Great Nispsey Hussle would say.
“I went through every emotion with tryna pursue what I’m doing, you know what I mean? And I think what’s gon’ separate whoever’s gon go for something, that you ain’t gon’ quit.”

I’m a certified fitness Coach/Nutritionist. I’ve been in this field for three years. Helping women and men stay fit and healthy. My company name is Shapes by Shevis fitness is a lifestyle. Here is a narrative of what my programs offer. My programs offer resistance training. What resistance training does is increases muscle strength by making your muscles work against a weight or force. Different forms of resistance training include using free weights, resistance bands and your own body weight. Varying your workouts can help you push past a training plateau. In my program, we only use resistance bands, dumbbells and our body weight. I also offer cardio without treadmills or bicycle’s, what we do use are of jump ropes, ladders and running etc. I also offer meal planning and prepping, group chat, Liability wavier, new client questionnaire and nutritional tips. My training sessions also offer weigh-in, blood pressure monitoring and measurements. At the end of each session whether group or one on one meditation is offered and included for relaxation. I’m currently traveling and renting out fitness centers in the area for training. What I’m most proud of as a brand is helping women to embrace there inner strength through nutrition and exercise. When my clients are loving their results and giving me so much great feedback. I consider my brand as a service provider. What sets me apart from others is the loyalty, commitment into the programs, dedication to my clients, as a group we are a big happy family that encourages each other in the process.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Yes! My experience growing up was not a beautiful environment. I would always fantasize I was in a different and clean neighborhood. My inspiration that help me become successful in this life. I would definitely have to say watching black television shows. Like The Cosby’s, Different world, Family matter’s and The Jefferson. Watching all these shows inspired me to go to college, be a successfully mother. Have a structure family.
