Meet Kiara Slater of SCIN in Norcross

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Slater.

Kiara, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got my degree from Alabama A&M University in Telecommunications. I always saw myself in the media has some sort of tv or radio situation going on. During my time in school, I would always get my nails done, my feet done, my eyebrows and come out feeling so amazing and confident. In doing so, I always had a thing in the back of my mind like I love doing these things but what in fact, are all the products that they are using that keeps drying out my skin and hands and making my nails so weak. So I decided to change my whole narrative on what I put on my body. God gave us this earth and it HAS to be tools that we can use in it to make ourselves elevate higher than just these products they push on us and we can’t even read nor pronounce half of the ingredients in them. So I set my sights on something that started off as a hobby to me and grew to what I love to do. And that’s making all natural skin care products. SCIN stands for SELF CARE IS NECESSARY. God gave me that name in the middle of the night while I was trying to fall asleep. Creating products where you know EXACTLY what you are putting on your body is taking care of yourself. So the way I figure, if I can make one just one person feel amazing every time they leave their home, a little less insecure, a lot more confident, then I have succeeded. The world wants to tear us down one by one, but if you take care of yourself, the amount of love you have for you, you will want to spread as much as you can to someone else.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, defiantly not a smooth road. Choosing to step out on faith when you have nothing but a vision is scary. Not knowing where to start or what to do is terrifying — seeing in your mind what others can’t is hard. What you have been given, this gift, this baby, you have to nurture and feed and don’t know how you will do it, and there is no one to look to tell you makes it that much harder. To be financially bound, saying to yourself I dont have enough money for this. Is hard. Because you love it so much, you keep going. Through the let down, the “oops that didn’t workout,” the nobody cares, the “how do I do this” is hard. They want to stop because it is just too much is hard. THOSE times make it hard. But you have to remember somebody somewhere is counting on you and needs what you have. So you keep going.

Tell us more about the business.
So SCIN is a all natural scin care line. We offer exfoliating body scrubs, moisturizing body oils, and butter cremes. We also have strengthening nail cuticle oils, as well as AMAZING lip balms. We are most known for our Body Scrubs and Body Butter Creme. As a company as a whole, I’m proud of how much SCIN has aided in people’s lives. Where they have put down the toxic chemicals and picked up more natural alternatives, it has helped people recognize that we have one body and we must protect it at all costs. What sets SCIN apart from others is the fact that it is for men AND women. The basis of SCIN is to readly available and affordable to ALL men and women. I want everyone to know that you don’t have to have a million dollars to receive a clean, quality product. At SCIN, we don’t want you to put it in your cart and leave it because I can’t afford it. We want you to buy it and change your life!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next five to ten years, SCIN will not only be natural products but a service. It will be a shop where men and women come to get manicures, pedicures, facials, waxes, and massages using our clean all natural products. No toxic chemicals. And there will be multiple shops you will be able to visit to receive these services.
