Today we’d like to introduce you to Jermaine Sain.
Jermaine, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
As a kid, I knew that I had a little talent, so I would entertain my cousins by singing and dancing. Then when I became a teenager, I started participating in school plays and singing in the church choir. Then, I went into the Army, where I also continued to sing for different official ceremonies. But it wasn’t until I got out of the Army that I really started to explore entertainment further. I moved to Atlanta in 2008 and started singing with a local choir. I really enjoyed singing with them, but then I noticed that they didn’t really have a social media presence, so I decided to post a video of us singing online. From there, we started getting opportunities from companies like Verizon Wireless and even sang with artists such as Kem and Heart. I was so amazed at the amount of growth that was coming to us. Then, I realized that if I could do that for the group, I could do that for myself. I didn’t really know many artists in Atlanta, so I decided to interview artists, to give me an opportunity to meet them. At first, it was very difficult because no one really knew me, so I would go to several artists’ shows on the regular so they would get familiar with my face and then I would ask them to interview with me and that was the start of When We Speak TV.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I actually believe that with every new opportunity, the road gets bumpier! Besides the expected issues of finding people to work with, I struggle with being my worst critic. It doesn’t matter how many people tell me that my work is good. I have to know it for myself. That is what I would say has been my biggest obstacle… Embracing my gift and accepting that God has given me everything that I need.
Please tell us about your work.
In simple terms, When We Speak, TV specializes in media. We shoot, edit, promote, and market all our content. The mission of When We Speak TV is to provide not only great videos, but also a platform for the client to market their business, music, etc. with online segments like our “What Do YOU Speak?’ segment. Our professionalism and authentic love for what we do is what sets us apart.
I’m most proud of our growth. I started When We Speak TV with very minimal knowledge of videography and through the journey I continue to learn more and more. Although it has been slow, I’m always amazed when people say they heard about us from a friend. That let’s me know that we are doing something right.
I’ve always believed that creativity is a direct connection to God and when I’m working with clients, I always remember that they have put lots of sweat and tears into their business, so I should always honor and respect their time and their craft.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
It’s always hard for me to speak about success because for me, success doesn’t come until the journey is complete, I am still on the journey to success but I know that one of the greatest things that have guided me along this journey is purpose. There are many people that don’t know what their purpose in life is, so I feel like it would be dishonoring for me to know my purpose and not follow it, which will ultimately lead me to success.
