Life and Work with Persiaa Tenai

Today we’d like to introduce you to Persiaa Tenai.

Persiaa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started this passion at the age of six singing and dancing at universal studios in Orlando, Florida in front of thousands of people over the summer and then praise dancing at church on Sundays. Once I got to high school, I got even more connected to music and performing arts by joining the International Thespians Society and Theater Club. Loving every minute on stage performing in front of people, I then graduated in 2011 and began focusing on becoming a radio host. I attended Albany State University where I interned at the school campus radio station.

In 2012 I came back to home to Atlanta and started focusing on making all these poems I would write as an outlet into real songs. I took my first step into the studio that year and have loved it ever since from behind the mic to behind the business industry in its entirety. I then began adding everything I loved into one, creating Atlanta’s Indie Tour 2K13. Which was a tour for independent artists that included showcases competitions, an amazing mixtape and a super dope concert and local radio interviews. The city of Atlanta and surrounding cities loved it.

That summer was great and was followed by four productive years of party promoting, artist development and management. In 2017 I then took a break to take care of my new baby boy but continued to be productive by building my social media platform and getting into the studio whenever I had free time. In 2019, I enrolled back into school to study Digital Audio Engineering, meeting so many amazing engineers, producers and artists. Growing those relationships placed me in the studio more than I had ever been. Being around all of that talent, it enhanced my entertainment business side which is where Unity Entertainment.

Unity Entertainment adds my love for the arts and loves to just see people doing what they love and profiting off of it. Unity brings togetherness, drive, push, and the best talent development in Atlanta.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Everything loved but nothing easy in my process to make a dream come true. From dragging my mom to phony open casting auditions all through high school to receiving no profit or public credit for the Indie Tour 2K13 Project. All summer of 2013, I spent long nights at events and in mixing studios trying to make it perfect, but because I was so young, let alone a women in this field of men, I never really got what I deserved.

Same goes for recording studios and having music to showcase of myself. Being a pretty girl sometimes has its downfalls. It gets hard to get work done without men being unprofessional, it gets hard to make people take you seriously when women already have low respect in the industry. As a woman with drive and vision, I never let any of that stop me.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Unity Entertainment – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Unity Entertainment specializes in talent development, promotion and marketing. Within Unity Entertainment is also a record label with myself Persiaa Tenai as the first artist under Unity’s label. I needed for people to take me seriously and the only way to felt that could happen if I had proof. I want to prove that I can develop myself and make my own dreams come true so that people can trust that I have the capability of doing it for them as well.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
A lot of things have changed in this industry for women. We are receiving more respect and we are hitting better numbers in the charts. I am very excited to experience this new wave of female entertainers shining brighter than the men. They had their time always. It’s our turn.
