I am Nevadia Shelton, a 19 year old full time student at Valdosta State University. I started Glossed by Nae with the passion to spread self-care awareness while also offering quality, affordable, handmade products. I originally started business early around age 7 selling handmade bracelets, earrings, and flower pens in my community. The inspiration to Glossed BY Nae came about seven months ago because of my mom and her recent sickness. She became super sensitive to many products after contracting Lyme disease in 2010. Also, My Aunt was a big inspiration on my business. Her struggles with food allergies motivated her to start her business “Allergy Schatz” selling corn-free food for those with chronic allergies. I Specialize in Natural and organic handmade products such as lip glosses, lip balms. Body butter, skincare and so much more!! In under a year, I have received over 800 sales from products that are sold on my site. Recently I was awarded an award from the VSU NAACP, where I was given the “Black Dollar Keeper Award” for being a business of strong promise and purpose.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting this business has been nothing easy. I have had many ups and downs, and even times when I wanted to give up. This business has shown me that those who support you will be the ones who know you the least. Being in college, the people that I have met have been super amazing and super supportive, allowing me to grow. Consistency at first was super discouraging because I wasn’t making any sales, and after a while, my consistency showed to be worth it. My biggest setback was something that deeply disappointed me. In August me and a few of my close friends had a falling out. A few days later, I woke up in the morning and saw that someone posted a slandering review on products they had purchased. This was my FIRST bad review. After 30 mins of research, I found out it was one of the girls that I was once close with. This review discouraged me because I was working hard, and I believed that on review would bring my site down. This situation made me come even harder about my brand. I continued to be consistent and work hard, and that was the biggest comeback. Soon after that, I started receiving opportunities to expand. Prayer and Faith have truly help my business grow!

Glossed By Nae Cosmetics is ALL Natural, Cruelty Free, and 100% handmade. One Of my infamous product is our handmade lip gloss and whipped body butter. What sets my business aside is I not only focus on the quality of my products but also quality customer service. I focus on empowerment. ALL of my customers are referred to as King And Queens and are assured like the royalty they are. Many other companies focus on items such as lashes and hair, but I wanted to focus on our health, which is a super important part of our daily lives.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In 3-5 years, it is my goal to reach 10,000 sales and spread my vision to Kings and Queens Through the country. My short-term goal is to obtain my LLC so that I can take my business to the next level! I want people to know the benefits and the ease of self-care. “Self- Care” is a under-talked about the topic in today’s society. I believe that in a few years, I can reach people and inform them about the benefits of self-care/ natural products how it will help positively us. I am hopeful that with consistency, I can spread more awareness, especially to our upcoming generation of children.
