Meet Rachel Mozingo of Swarm Agency in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Mozingo.

Rachel, before we jump into specific questions about the company, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2010, right out of college, I moved to Manhattan with one suitcase and my dog. I didn’t know anyone there, and I didn’t have a job or place to live yet, but I knew I wanted to start my career in New York City. I soon landed a job with a large media agency. Over the next couple of years, I worked hard, lived the New York life to the fullest, and made lifelong friends. I enjoyed my job and was doing well in it, but after some time, I realized I wanted more. I wanted to build something of my own.

With encouragement from my father, I made the leap back to Atlanta and started a website design and digital marketing company in 2012. It was exciting and fun to grow my own company, work on the projects I wanted to, and hire the people I wanted to work with. We built websites for companies and organizations of all sizes. We helped them market their own businesses and provided the expertise they needed to succeed. It was rewarding work.

Last year, we were presented with the opportunity to merge our marketing division with our sister agency, PracticeProfs, and move over to Swarm Agency. We became the new Managed Marketing division of Swarm and now cater to small and midsized businesses as their outsourced marketing department. Joining forces with Swarm has allowed us to grow more quickly and reach more local and national businesses. We have helped turn companies that were just starting out into successful businesses by being their marketing department when they didn’t have one. We love to see how the work we do for our clients impacts their customers as well. We are helping local businesses thrive, in Atlanta and beyond.

Has it been a smooth road?
At first, one of the biggest hurdles I encountered was trying to do too much myself. Your company can never grow if you don’t prioritize and determine what is essential for you to work on versus what can be turned over to someone else. This takes self-evaluation to determine where your strengths lie. I think a lot of entrepreneurs struggle with this, but once you can move past it, it is life (and company!) changing.

Another struggle has been balancing work and family life. As a mom of two, growing a family and a company at the same time meant working many late nights and weekends. However, I have always been determined to put my everything into both work and home, and with the support of my amazing husband, Nathan, over the years, I have been able to give both my all. I am glad I can show my daughters that they can build their careers or start a business if they want, all while having a family. I’ve also noticed that becoming a working mom has made me more efficient at work, as you truly do not have the time to mess around!

We’d love to hear more about your company.
Swarm’s Managed Marketing division specializes in serving as the marketing department for companies who don’t have an in-house team. We differ in that we focus on a holistic marketing plan as if we’re part of the company or firm. Including both digital and traditional marketing tactics enables us to develop marketing plans that produce a return on investment for our clients, which is different for each company. We track everything, and those metrics reveal to us exactly what is and isn’t working for our clients. I’m proudest of the fact that we have a hand in helping so many businesses grow at the same time. Because these companies trust us as their marketing department, we become part of their team and work to provide real results that bring clients and customers to them.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I wish Atlanta were more walkable. I loved that while living in New York, and when I travel, I seek out walkable cities. There’s something great about the small interactions you have with people throughout your day when you’re not stuck in a car. What I like best about Atlanta is the restaurant scene. Whether you want upscale, or casual international eats on Buford Highway, Atlanta has some seriously good restaurants!
