Meet Tomika Wilkerson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tomika Wilkerson.

Tomika, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
A little over two years ago I started to have a vision, I knew I wanted to help and give back but wasn’t sure what my assignment was at the time but I knew I had a purpose. After being a survivor of Molestation, rape and suicide I knew that I was still here for a reason. I went on a six month fast and disconnected from all outlets. Social media, drinking, hanging out etc. I had to clear my mind, body and spirit, to get a clear vision of what I was put on this earth for. I realized why I had been through so much as a child, that was to be able to share my story and hopefully help other women and girls that have been through the same things. I wanted to be that voice for our young queens. It also allowed me to knows the signs and behavior of young girls that have been through what I’ve been through. I started this non profit organization by the name of Strength in Sisterhood In Nov of 2018 and hosted my very first meeting on June 29th 2019. It’s a mentoring and empowerment program. We are built on Unity, bonds, empowering one another, love and no matter the race, religion or background. Queens from the ages of 6-18 yrs old.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, but it’s been worth it. My perseverance, hard work and determination have paid off. I wanted to give up at first because I doubted myself. I didn’t think I could do it. I was afraid that I wouldn’t have any girls show up, that people wouldn’t believe in me because of my past and the road I traveled for so many years. It was my biggest challenge.

We’d love to hear more about the organization.
Strength in Sisterhood is a mentoring and empowerment program. Our objectives are Focusing on mentoring, support building, creating bonds, empowerment, encouragement, communication, and education of ladies of all walks of life, race, religion, or creed from 6 through 18 years of age. We provide an emphasis on giving back to the community through volunteering, uplifting, tutoring, and focusing on career-building skills. These young ladies are also taught about goal creation, investing, self-love, and building their brand on becoming active citizens within their households, communities and society.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Well, the need will always be there to mentor our young girls. And for that Reason I see us growing, we grow every meeting we have new young queens signing up. Jacksonville will be our first Chapter. I plan to start a program in my Hometown Orlando, Fla and up and all through Florida. I pray we continue to have a positive impact on so many girls that we could expand throughout the USA. 🙏🏾
