Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Collazo.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Ever since I could remember, my father loved taking me to concerts! Living in New York City meant that there was a lot of concert attending! I loved it! I have early memories of me probably at 5 playing radio guessing games with my dad. He’ll put on a song and ask me who’s playing and what’s the name of the song! Little did I know he was developing my ear for how I make a living today!
By 13, I was Volunteering to run Audio at our local church. I was fortunate enough at that age to be trained by some of the best Live Sound Engineers of the day and not have to pay for it! I spent the majority of my high school years behind the scenes helping the show go on from a production side and loved every bit of it! From High School Theater to concerts I wanted to be on the Production Team. When the time to go off to college came around, I had no idea what I wanted to do, which sounds silly now after writing about how much I loved what I got to be a part of in High School, but as a 17 year old you have so many voices telling you to invest in a real career that I always saw what I loved doing to be a hobby and there’d be no way to turn it into a career.
So I took a year off! I spent 2014 -2015 putting others first and traveled to 3 different continents doing relief work from disasters, working in orphanages and teaching English. I can’t tell you how important that year was for my Spiritual, Mental and Emotional Health! It allowed me to put so much of my life into perspective and if I were going to College it will be to pursue a career that will serve far beyond me.
I attended Atlanta Leadership College in Norcross, GA from 2015-2018. There I realized that the experience I developed from 13 onward in the Production world was a gift/privilege and in school, I continued to develop that gift to the point that my last two years in the school I was able to teach my peers on a semester basis Production 101.
My last year in College came with it it’s own troubles. I felt pressure I had everything figured out before I graduated. How am I going to tackle debt, housing, work? All the fun stuff. Then I was presented with an opportunity to come in at the ground level of a Video Production Company that’s now in the top 5 largest Wedding Photo & Video Companies in the country! That next year out of College was invaluable I was able to help build a business! Which was never in the cards for me. Like at all! That year I fell in love with Video Production. The question I started asking myself at that moment was, “How can I combine the two things I love most?” That’s when EC Creative Co was conceived!
In 2019, I founded EC Creative Co. an Atlanta based live event production Company specializing in curating live music performances through Audio and Visual services. My whole life I’ve loved music and as I’ve gotten older the more and more that love has grown! Now it’s my chance to give back to the music community by providing the best quality Audio and Visual services for Artists of any size when they come to Atlanta!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? Absolutely not, but each hiccup, each bump in the road has only further refined how we operate as a business and has improved our product 10 fold. The only mistakes we make are when we don’t learn from them.
One of the biggest struggles I’ve had with my business is separating myself from it. It sounds weird, but trust me your home needs be the healthiest thing in your life because everything else reflects the state of your home. I quit my job two weeks before my wedding to launch EC Creative. Imagine telling your future spouse that before your wedding! The faith my wife had in me to chase this dream was what got us through that transition, and now I need to learn to slow the hustle when I get home to prioritize our growing relationship. If you’re an entrepreneur, you know this feeling. You love the grind, but you have to hustle in building your relationships at home. It keeps you healthy!
EC Creative Co – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
YOU Dream it. WE Create it. Creativity is our passion! EC Creative Co. wants to make your dream event happen anywhere, at any time! We strive to deliver the highest quality production available while working within your desired budget. Whether your event is a concert, music video, business conference or wedding, we’ll connect all the dots to achieve and exceed your expectations. With professionalism and quality assurance at mind, we’re dedicated in every aspect to deliver the event and product of your dreams. With a background in video and audio production, as well as being dedicated musicians, you can be assured that your project will be delivered with crystal clear video and pristine audio.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me equals significance. Am I leaving a legacy? If so, what is it? How did I leave my impact in this industry? Of course, I want to take care of my family and ensure that we won’t have to struggle in the future that’s a given I believe. But how can you do that and empower/impact your community around you? I want to help others be successful and achieve their dreams. At the end of the day, I hope EC Creative Co is just a catalyst to get me in front of World Changers who want help to change their World.
