Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamiyah Garrett.
Tamiyah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Since I was a little girl, I loved being either in front of the mirror or In front of someone’s camera. Shortly after having my son, I created a YouTube channel. People would see me with the camera and say I should become a model because I have the look. Eventually, I begin creating DIY backdrops and doing as many photoshoots at home that I could. One day a YouTuber named Keesha Anderson was looking for models to be in her hair shoot. I was blessed enough to be picked to be one of the models. The rush that I felt before, during and after the shoot confirmed my true desire to become a model. So far, I have modeled for small boutiques, joined modeling groups and am continuing to build my portfolio.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. I’ve had my experience with photoshoots that were a waste of time and dead-end model groups. I also had to learn how to find genuine photographers in Atlanta. I have learned over time that some have ulterior motives and will use your pictures as a pawn.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m 5’2 and 113 pounds. I don’t have the thick bootylicious shape that our society depicts as perfect. Despite my petite shape, I am still able to create extremely appealing content. I have also been told by multiple photographers that I have worked with, that I have a skill in posing. Some models need assistance and direction when shooting. When it’s time to shoot, I show up and show out, no assistance required. My outgoing personality has also made it easy for the photographer and me to have an enjoyable shoot.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see my modeling career opening doors for commercial and occasional acting gigs. I also see myself working with many popular and high end brands. I see myself eventually becoming an international print model on billboards all over the world.
