Meet Ahmad “Kalamity” Carter of Kalamity Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ahmad Carter.

Ahmad, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I guess you could say that my story started when I enrolled in The Atlanta Broadcast Institute. I always loved the entertainment/media industry and knew that I wanted to be a part of it. I graduated valedictorian and realized it was something that I was very good at. Growing up, I was always the quiet kid who didn’t say much but that changed as I got older and grew to love being in front of the mic or camera. I created Kalamity Productions in 2011 when I started my first YouTube channel. My first uploads were actually audition videos for a gaming reality show, then I started uploading fitness videos and ultimately gaming playthroughs and unboxings. I’ve been a gamer most of my life and my professional broadcasting experience were the perfect marriage help me get to where I am today. I continued to build my brand while recording gameplay videos with my commentary playing mostly fighting games and some first-person shooters.

In August of 2016, I made the transition to Twitch and loved the ability to create content and interact with my community live. Gaming and Esports are becoming really big globally and in Atlanta especially, I’ve been able to work with some great companies like Twitch, Axis Replay, SkillShot, Scavenger Studios & Plarium as on-air talent as well as doing a panel at Dreamhack Atlanta 2019 with our Overwatch League esports team the Atlanta Reign.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was not a smooth road and I feel few success stories do. There is always a struggle getting people to believe in a dream. I knew what I wanted to do and knew I had the skill to do it. People were worried if it was a mere hobby that I was just passionate about. Not until the last few years now I think people close to me actually see that gaming isn’t a wasteful past-time and there are people making a living and creating a name for themselves doing it. I feel esports and the prize pools have helped that image a lot along the way. Streaming is just another form of media and entertainment much like television or movies. Getting good equipment to have a professional presence has also been a challenge, but you have to work with what you have until you get what you want. Another challenge would be being a black man in the gaming/esports field. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of us being represented in the esports/gaming world especially as on-air talent.

Kalamity Productions – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My company is currently run by my business manager Angie “Gaming Cutie” Briel and myself. We specialize in gaming/esports content creation across various video and live-streaming sites. I am known for being a professional host/caster and general on-air talent. I am most proud of how much the company has grown and is sought out for our services locally and abroad and all the amazing fundraising we’ve been able to do. What sets Kalamity Productions apart from others is our knowledge, care and professionalism that we bring to every production.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define success as becoming a household name. I am continuously looking to grow my brand through different avenues. I am looking to become a Twitch partner in 2020, continue to build my demo reel by working with more companies as on-air talent or a partner, getting verified on Twitter and continue to pursue my acting career as well. Ultimately I want to be the go-to guy for gaming/esports hosting or commentary, I like to say that I am the Ryan Seacrest of gaming.
