Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall Stowell.
Kendall, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
KS Creative was born out of my love of small businesses and my passion to help support them. With my background in apparel, interiors, and styling, I’ve always felt connected to the creative world. After having our first daughter and leaving the director position at Billy Reid on the Westside, I helped someone I knew and respected for a long time with some PR work. She ended up going full-time at her start-up, so I was left to continue on my own and to really think about what I wanted to cultivate. Instagram was just getting started and I fell in love with the ability to express yourself in a visual way. Obviously, a lot has changed in the digital space since I started KS Creative in 2015, but we are luckily still going and adapting with it!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh, gosh no. Really, up until 2019, I was just being reactive and not proactive… simply trying to keep up with work. Especially after our second daughter was born in 2017, it was a struggle to figure out a good balance. Do I say “no” to the next client because I know I don’t have enough time? Or do I get more childcare to handle it? Trying to work through all that was really rough.
The only reason I am still in business is because I have the most amazing and understanding clients. The biggest lesson I have learned as a working mom and business owner is to not over promise and under deliver – there is nothing worse for your reputation and referrals. That is not to say that I don’t make mistakes and sometimes miss deadlines, but I really try my best to always follow through and keep an open line of communication with my clients.
The beginning of this year was one of those moments in every small business owner’s life, do I scale down and stay where I am, or do I want to be able to grow and help my clients in even more ways? So, I ended up hiring my first person this year! Just to have someone to discuss business with and bounce ideas off of was such a nice change. She also is strong in some areas where I am not, which I think is really important for your first hire. Oh, and this COVID-19 shut down hasn’t been a walk in the park for me or any of my clients either!
KS Creative – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
KS Creative works with small, creative businesses to find their voice. We do that through various social media outlets, email marketing, events, public relations, but also building relevant relationships that can grow their business. We specialize in interiors, fashion, building and architecture… we even took on our first restaurant this year! If I feel connected to the brand and have an understanding of it, that’s when I feel like it’s a good match. After meeting with someone, sometimes you just know!
The other day I was talking with a client about what sets him apart from his competitors. He had such a good answer, and I told him I didn’t think I could answer that question as well as he did. He said, “I can. You really care about your clients and their businesses, and it shows.” That meant the world to me because it’s true. I really do care about every single one of my clients and how their business performs. I would say that’s what sets us apart and what I’m most proud of as a company. We are strictly word of mouth referral. Because we continue to have clients referred to us by previous clients, it makes me feel like we are doing something right.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is my clients’ happiness with the job we are doing. There is truly nothing else that matters. We have cultivated such a great group of clients, and I couldn’t be more thankful for where KS Creative is today compared to where I started in 2015.

Ase Omavuaye Otite: I am a Nigerian-born author who is passionate about children and driven to protect their innocence. I have an extremely creative mind and identify myself as an artist. I love to express myself through art, especially photography, words, and music. I have discovered how great and freeing it is to be myself and it helps me unlock new ideas. I am an aunt and godmother to 27 nieces and nephews and play an active role in their lives. Engaging with the children in my life helps keep my inner child at the forefront when I am writing and creating art. My goal is to take readers’ imagination on a magical adventure, allowing children to connect to their creative side. I believe with my artistic ideas, I can accomplish that. My love and passion for children and technology in my personal life was the driving force that helped me write my children’s book, Happystarville. My book, Happystarville teaches great morals to young children; allowing them to see how the consequences of their actions don’t just affect them—but also everyone around them. Happystarville is available online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Walmart.
