Meet Christopher Darby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Darby.

Christopher A’mmanuel Darby was born on April 21st and relocated to Charlotte, NC. Christopher’s parents, Anthony and Colette Darby, began teaching him and his siblings how to sing, which would later spark a singing group. Years of traveling with his family singing all over, they decided to incorporate skits in the performances. After years of singing as his first love, Christopher always had a passion for the arts and ended up falling in love with musical theatre. From “The Lion King” remake to “Hamilton” remake, it seemed Christopher found his nitch. Young, hungry, and driven, Christopher starred in the hit original stage play, “Getting Outta Bombingham,” written by George W Stewart. Christopher didn’t stop there. He begins making the arts his life from working with non-profits, churches, and even schools to share creativity, and inspire the youth. Chris then moved to Atlanta, where opportunity awaited.

Acting became a priority, and to be great became a must. Chris hit the ground running, booking several roles. At the age of 19, he landed his biggest role thus far in the hit CW show, “Black Lightning,” starring Cress Williams, Nafessa Williams, and China Anne Mcclain, among other notable actors, where he plays TC. Since then, Christopher has added more projects to his portfolio, including the DC Universe series “Doom Patrol” and Netflix Feature Film “Holidate.” Christopher resides in Charlotte, NC, but he’s continuously studying, training, and pursuing his dream in acting, while still keep his musical gifts and the creative arts alive!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
From having no lights to having no running water, the journey hasn’t been a smooth ride. Being evicted, sleeping in a van, or not having anywhere to go was the most challenging moment(s) in his life. You know, they say that trails and tribulations will either make or break you. That stands true in Christopher’s opinion. He often says that moments like having to wash up in a bucket are the same moments that drives him to be successful. Not having much gave him the motivation to chase every dream and aspiration. “The best things are usually the hardest to get,” Chris would often say.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
Christopher is an actor, singer, songwriter, musician, and mentor to youth. He is known for his work in front of the camera, and his work on the stage. But the most important thing he wants to be remembered for is the impact that he had on people. He loves seeing people thrive, as well as being successful. Organizations like “Actors Link Up” helps keep him in the servant mindset, and that’s when he’s at his best. He is all about community and togetherness. ” Your happiness shouldn’t stop my happiness, but if we put our happiness together, we can change the world.”

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Passion and his willingness to help others have always been an essential factor in his success. Christopher believes that the positive energy that you give redistributed back to you. Humility is also a key piece of Chris’s success. Always willing to learn from anyone, being grateful for the little things, and showing gratitude. A simple “thank you” or “you’re appreciated’ can take you a long way.
