Meet Trailblazer Jaylesa Bentley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylesa Bentley.

Jaylesa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My love for lashes actually began around three years ago when I started getting individual extensions done for myself. I’ve always been interested in entering the beauty industry, where I felt I could implement my creative talents and fell in love with the concept of doing lash extensions. I’ve been providing this service for roughly two years now and I enjoy making other women feel how I feel every time I get my lashes done. As far as how I got to where I am today? If it wasn’t for my clients and the support of my family and friends, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am very grateful for everyone involved in my growth since opening my business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far, the business has been doing great! What I try my best to do is to stay in tune with my competition. Atlanta is a major hub for beauty and there are a lot of other women doing what you’re doing, so I try my best to stand out when providing my service to clients. The advice that I would give young women is to KEEP GOING. It doesn’t matter the circumstances if someone else is doing what you’re doing, if you may have a slow period. KEEP GOING. The only person that will hold you back is you.

We’d love to hear more about Bentleyminks.
I’m a certified lash extension technician, where I specialize in the placement of individual lash extensions. This service gives each woman the freedom of feeling beautiful anytime of the day, even after waking up without all of the maintenance. A lot of my clients have even made comments on how they have stopped wearing makeup everyday because with the lash extensions, they feel like they don’t need it! It makes me happy and proud to be able to make others feel beautiful.

I feel like I am able to relate to my clients as the everyday working woman. I make it a priority to provide a safe space for everyone that comes to see me like they’re just going to their girlfriend’s house and leaving looking and feeling amazing.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Seeing my parents make ends meet by depending on their job while growing up showed me that I wanted to provide more for my family, a life that they deserved to live. Don’t get me wrong, my parents hustled and made it happen. They both were born and raised in Miami, FL and survival was an everyday accomplishment for them. However, I want to show my family the importance of having your own and building an empire, which is why I go so hard when it comes to creating a lane for myself. For all of us.
