Meet Brittney Sheaffer of Bobby Pinning Studio in Chattanooga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Sheaffer.

Brittney, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The furthest back I can remember I was 4 or 5 and I taught myself to braid my Barbies hair. Growing up, I styled hair for all of my friends, my two sisters and their friends for any school dance or special event. When I was six, I wanted to be a veterinarian and that is all I talked about wanting to do. I stayed home and did one year of community college and the summer I had everything lined up to transfer to a university I had an epiphany, why am I not doing hair for my living, I love it so much! All the right doors opened up and I knew this is what I was meant to do. Weddings are my passion. The very first wedding I styled hair for was while I was in hair school. Before I started hair school, I was modeling for a hobby. In 2011 I did my first bridal runway show and I still do them to this day. As well as modeling wedding dresses on the runway, I also model for stylized wedding photoshoots.

One month into dating I got my boyfriend to be my groom for a shoot and that’s when it all began. We have now done eight fake wedding photoshoots together and two runway shows together, this last one he proposed to me right on stage! In all parts of my life weddings are involved and I absolutely love it! Not only did I get engaged last year, I also started my own business, Bobby Pinning Studio. I was not sure if I was ready but I took the leap and it has been absolutely amazing. I started out small, like a stepping stone to where ultimately I wanted to be. I have been doing hair for seven years and my dreams and goals have come to fruition; I am currently moving into a bigger space and expanding. Bobby Pinning Studio provides all hair services but specializes in weddings. We travel all over the world to be on site for the big day. I have had the privilege to do a wedding in Mexico and Costa Rica and my fiancé and I modeled a fake wedding this year back in Costa Rica! I never imagined a career and a hobby would mesh so well and take me as far as it has.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It most definitely has not been easy. I could write a book about the struggles I have faced but they are minuscule and, ultimately, lessons that equipped me to grow and become who I am and where I am today. I think the biggest thing was for me not to get in my own way. Doubt would set in, I was fearful, the unknown made me nervous but I had to get to a point to not let that hold me back.

Please tell us about Bobby Pinning Studio.
Bobby Pinning Studio is a full service hair salon specializing in weddings. I think what sets Bobby Pinning Studio apart is how we cater to brides. The very first salon I worked at not a single stylist, wanted to do wedding hair. To my surprise, a big majority of hairstylists do not offer wedding hair services. We really pride ourselves on giving the bride and her party the best experience we can provide. We never want to have a bride stressed, get off the master timeline, or most importantly, dislike a single strand of hair!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I have always loved working with my hands. Painting, scrapbook, random craft projects, hand sew dresses for my dolls, (once older) made my own Halloween costumes, cake decorating, woodworking. I loved anything artistic and I think that’s why styling hair is my favorite thing to do.
