Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Dupree.
Anthony, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It was only a year ago when I made a selfish, yet conscious decision to journey away from familiar territory to a foreign city full of opportunities and possibilities. Growing up in Wilmington, Delaware I knew that the love I was birthed from was just enough to position me in the right direction here in Atlanta. As a kid growing up in such a poverty driven neighborhood, I always had the dream of being THE ONE to pave the way for my family and uphold the legacy. Creativity and talent were often encouraged in my younger years because it balanced out what the average eye would see on a day to day basis in my city. At such a young age, I carried not only the wisdom, but the knowledge through the prayers of family, to be the best that I can be and to shine bright so that my IMPACT and inspiration was contagious. I allowed my ‘hard knock’ experiences to motivate me through my creativity.
Most of my creative, yet challenging moments took place while completing my Mass Communications (Television & Radio) program at The Virginia State University. I was able to publish my first novel titled, “Imagine Me..” which was a fiction-based novel addressing the general issues that families face in ‘ghetto’. From this one project, my creative juices provoked me into creating other projects. I then launched two fragrance lines, ‘Legend’ cologne for men and ‘Royal Love’ perfume for women. In addition, I began to explore other talents as a singer, actor, and writer while launching my own music, performing on stages, and even creating my own web series.
My acting career began to elevate once I got the opportunity to be casted and travel on a national stage production tour with Priest Tyaire’s, “Momma’s Boy”. I was able to build relationships and join forces with the legendary Jackée Harry, Johnny Gill, Shirley Murdock, Robin Givens, and others. Through this production company, I was also granted the opportunity to work with Vivica Foxx, Clifton Powell, Debbie Morgan, Keith Washington, Nephew Tommy (Steve Harvey Morning Show), and Gary Jenkins (Lil G from R&B group, SILK). Since then, I was afforded the opportunity to also work in television and film traveling overseas and within the country doing what I love.
Music for me is my foundation. I grew up in the church and was very active singing in the choir and ‘praise team’. Although I transitioned into the genre of R&B, I never strayed away from the overall message of love, hope and empowerment to reach my audience. Not only was I able to do my own music, but Atlanta introduced me to a forever family who I’m able to do music with; the legendary 90’s R&B group, Basic Black.
I believe that each of us have a unique way of reaching the next and captivating them enough to inspire such a crazy, yet hurting world. Thats what IMPACT means to me and I know that even after me, my legacy and the lives I touch, will continue the IMPACT initially made. The IMPACT Continues!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
ABSOLUTELY NOT! I think that the most challenging thing most creatives like myself face is the lack of support from people. We often spend so much of our time focused on planning, writing, praying, and investing into our craft, that when it’s time to deliver, we begin to doubt and discourage ourselves into never creating again once we see no reciprocation. I had to learn this early in my career and really appreciate the love, support, and push from my own family to keep my eyes on the prize. The greater goal is not in the applause, recognition, or spot light, but rather the emotional and identifiable connection with hearts through the form of entertainment.
Please tell us about your work.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I realize that I would be absolutely NOTHING without GOD, who has truly developed, humbled, and sustained me into the man I am today. I’m grateful for my hero, my grandmother Elease Hawkins who throughout the years made being poor look so wealthy. She along with my mother Danielle and aunt Tara, imparted such gems into my life that will forever stabilize my morals, self-esteem, and giving spirit. Special shout out to my entire family as well for their continued push and love! I am also grateful for my spiritual mentors who have prayed me through challenging times and celebrated with me in moments of victory. Pastor Helena Creamer, Apostle Travis Jennings, and the late Dr. Louvenia Dickerson.
Special thanks to D. Wiggins Production Group, Priest Tyaire Productions, Basic Black Family, and some of my sincere co-workers and co laborers I journeyed throughout life with that kept me encouraged to never quit.
