Meet Stephanie Bramble of Dutchmans Casual Living in Chamblee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Bramble.

Stephanie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Well, Chamblee is the youngest store. Only three years old and so it’s still in its infancy. Just like Chamblee is growing and changing, I hope we grow right along with the area. We really hope to be everybody’s neighborhood shop to head in to for anything from outfitting their living room with custom finished furniture to that grab-n-go hostess gift during the holidays. We try to hit every note and keep it casual and fresh feeling always. I originally hale from Australia but as life would have it I landed in the middle of a mountain town in Appalachia — Highlands, North Carolina. I started out refinishing and flipping furniture piece by piece and doing floral arrangements for weddings and events. Eventually, it grew into a storefront. Now I not only have my mountain store, I also have a beach, lake and city store, respectively, giving me the creative freedom to make each location different from the next.

In the last couple of years, we have had some really unique opportunities come our way. We started to take on design projects of all sizes. People will come into the store and say, “I really love everything in here,” and we strike up a conversation and off we go. In 2019 Dutchman’s wrapped a boutique hotel project in St Simon’s Island–Hotel Simone. Everything you see featured in the hotel, you can actually order through Dutchmans! It was such a creative experience to showcase all that Dutchmans can offer! Currently, many pieces designed for our Hotel Collection are making their way to the floor of our shops and people are really responding to them!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Of course, there are bumps along the way. Its all part of the custom furniture game. But as a team, we are geared to problem solve. Furniture and design, in general, is such a visceral thing and everyone has their own ideas and tastes. It’s all very subjective, right? So many of our custom wood offerings are hand-painted and there is always a degree of variance to embrace. Also, because each piece is hand-finished, no piece is ever exactly like another, depending on the artisans. That being said, I think that’s what makes our furniture stand out. I also really truly believe that our one of a kind finishes are that unsaid spark that fuels our in-store experience–creating our signature casual, lived-in style of mixing different textures together and seeing what’s possible and completely unique. That being said, when it comes to ordering custom, hand-finished furniture, you have to be okay with the imperfections in things to really understand and embrace the casual living look that we offer.

Dutchmans Casual Living – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are your neighborhood store specializing in all things home. We also have in-store designers happy to offer assistance at varying degrees of involvement. I think our knowledgeable design staff, sheer variety and volume of in-stock options as well as our ability to customize really sets us apart from your run of the mill furniture store.
