Today we’d like to introduce you to Rodney Wash.
Carpe Diem, every second of the day, is how “Rodney Wash” spends most of his day. A lot of people might have known him as “Cognac” from his talk show “Lipstick and Cognac” on “Rolling out Magazine,” but now he goes by Rodney. Rodney now has a talk show called “Over a Cup of Coffee with Rodney Wash” on “AIB Network.” Raised by his dad and mom. Rodney grew up in Gulfport, Mississippi, under the roof with five other siblings, controlled chaos as he would explain it. Rodney, attend USM and studied Bio-Chemistry… Quite the switch up!
It wasn’t until September 23, 2012, when Rodney experienced a near-death car wreck. This would forever change his life, being able to walk away from such a tragedy he was reminded that growing up he wanted to make people laugh, that his pastor told “him he would speak to crowds of millions,” and just the fact that he has always wanted to own his own talk show to shed light on things in the media and life experiences. This is the passion that keeps the flame going for “Rodney Wash”!
Nothing is like your first time, and Rodney’s first time behind a camera was a “dream come true” it was a feeling he had never experienced. Nervous and afraid that people wouldn’t take to his content, his platform, and him was very short-lived once he realized that people enjoyed what he had to offer.
Has it been a smooth road?
OMG NO!!! LOL!!! It wasn’t a smooth road at all. I had to bump my butt more than a few times to learn this industry. Atlanta is full of media personalities. You have to “Network” with everyone just so that you can get your foot in the door. I was told “NO” plenty of times. However, when one door closed, another one opened. I just kept knocking until someone notices my value. You really have to be unique. You can’t be like anyone one else. Like the old saying goes, “it’s 1000 ways to count to 100”. With that being said, you can’t just say 99 + 1= 100. You need to find your niche and excel in it. Also, don’t ever COMPARE YOUR JOURNEY OR PROGRESSION TO ANYONE ELSE.

I like to call myself a new up and coming media mogul! I can host a red carpet to hosting a talk show talking to your favorite celebrities. However, I specialize in giving people a safe platform to share their stories. My proudest moment was when I had a watch party for my talk show “Over a Cup of Coffee with Rodney Wash” at AIB Network’s studio. To see a room full of people who just wanted to support me was such a beautiful thing. What sets me apart from for others is my ability to make people feel welcome, and no matter what, I’m always going to give my honest opinion.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, Atlanta is the new Hollywood! All you need to do is be persistent and network. Like I said earlier, you will get told NO, but you will eventually receive your YES!!! The only thing stopping you from being successful is YOURSELF!
