Meet Taylor Saxton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Saxton.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Taylor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My beginning as a motivational speaker has been part of the journey for as long as I can remember. It began when I started acting at a young age – and everything else I have done – like reporting, and communications, helped take my public speaking to the next level. I think I realized that the overall goal, in whatever I was doing, was tied to inspiring others. I also realized that, God was setting me up and that motivational speaking has been a part of the plan from the beginning. When I came to IBM, I joined a group called Toastmasters, an organization focused on leadership and public speaking development. I needed to take my public speaking to the next level – structured and formatted, but yet, still authentic and real. Conducting pointed speeches for my colleagues on topics that coincided with my soul and desire to impact, enabled my growth and overall opportunity. I had already been doing the work; this just confirmed it.

I started in church – and from Toastmasters, a colleague asked that I take my abilities even further by sharing a message to current grads at her local church. Another opportunity underneath the belt. So, I ran with that. Someone heard me and believed in me. It’s really how all of my opportunities have manifested. From then on and in the growing number of opportunities— people either heard about me, witnessed an opportunity I had, or just believed in me to share an undeniable message that could help benefit the future of our youth with the encouragement of the Lord along the way. I have spoken in front of congregations, schools, my community, and even an entire workforce. I am so grateful for every opportunity I’ve had in sharing my story and life lessons that I have been taught to impact others. We all have a special purpose in life— and God asks that our love for one another be that purpose. He asks that we share our gifts and talents as well, but to also share our testimonies to provide light to others as we travel along this journey we call ‘Life’. I think my will to serve, help, and better others has gotten me where I am and the opportunities I’ve had. And I look to continue sharing God’s grace in serving others when I look to my future.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’d say the journey is still in progress. My path is still being developed. I take pride in the journey instead of just looking towards the mere destination. Quite honestly, I don’t think I have one. I just hope to empower anyone I meet or who I come across to be better and help them reach their greatest potential. Honestly, the biggest challenge is in the moment of speaking to an audience. You only hope that it makes sense and resonates for those listening. But whether encouraging leadership development & tech, or inspiring an audience to find their purpose in life – no matter what challenge I may face, I only hope to make impact. If I can help one person, then I’ve done my job and served my purpose. Therefore, challenges are obsolete.

Taylor Saxton – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a motivational speaker and my focus is in uplifting the youth to put their best foot forward. In my career I have served several different audiences, all aligned to the same theme. I love encouraging others to reach their greatest potential, helping them understand the power that lies within them. It just so happens that my favorite and most prevalent audience, is our youth and young adults. I have several topics in advocating this theme – from encouraging future success and purpose, as well as encouraging success through topics centered around tech, and leadership & professional development.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I think the greatest thing about Atlanta is that there is so much opportunity for success – and for those who have never seen it, to see the possibility of it. Atlanta is a mecca for black-owned business, with high success rates, which can be inspiring for our African-American youth and my primary audience. The more visibility and awareness in those that look like them deemed as successful, then the more seeds sprinkled in encouraging new possibilities to enable their future success. My favorite thing about Atlanta most definitely.
