Meet Jackie Palmer of The GoodLife Agency

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Palmer.

Jackie is a die-hard Detroiter, Spelman College graduate, and fourth-generation entrepreneur. She loves sharing ideas and helping implement strategies for growth. Since 2012, she’s been assisting clients to grow their audience, impact, and most importantly their bottom line. She started with a pop-up festival in Williamsburg, Brooklyn to showcase the talents, drive, and dedication of a few of her friends.

After graduating from Spelman, she worked on Wall Street in NYC for several years, then found her calling working with government agencies in New York City to grow community campaign initiatives across the five boroughs. From helping clients win over $7M through pitch competitions and private investment to traveling with Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary Hillary Clinton, Senator Kamala Harris, and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg for their Democratic Presidential Campaigns, and leading Production and Communications for the March For Our Lives Tour in 2018, she loves helping clients grow by providing strategies that create national impact.

Jackie is an award winning expert in marketing strategy, business communications, and community development with over twelve years of experience working with presidential candidates, small businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations. She has exceptional experience and skills in developing and implementing marketing and messaging campaigns, public relations initiatives, advocacy campaigns, crafting corporate partnerships and facilitating training for promoting diversity, inclusion, and equity among varied audiences. Her past experiences include managing client projects in challenging, fast-paced consulting ecosystems that require her to deliver on her technical skills and communications knowledge promptly.

Jackie has led projects for several clients, large and small, garnering the skills for corporate-level communications messaging and training, marketing, and communications research and development, high-level decision-making assessment strategy, and crafting multicultural audience campaign initiatives. She handles all strategy and development for their client portfolio.

Jackie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and International Communications Studies from Spelman College. She is an award-winning growth and communications strategist, the former National Communications Director for ColorComm Network, and a Strategic Advisor for #BlackWomenDoSocial. She is also the Founder of The HumbleHustle.Co podcast.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. I’ve lost count of how many times I wanted to quit, go get a regular job, etc. But every time I had that thought, God provided me with the opportunity of a lifetime with a dream client that was bigger and better. I pitched and won in my first competition while my mother was undergoing surgery for a cancer diagnosis, grieving the death of my grandfather while launching businesses for clients, leading production for the March of Our Lives Tour and hosting community events with the City of Detroit. From being the only Black woman on several campaign tours and almost being arrested, to having to rebrand our agency, hiring and firing and reevaluating our workplace culture and mission, and having to place all clients on hold for large scale clients that ended abruptly. I’ve seen and experienced it all.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have taken the potential of the business more seriously. When I first started, I would make $100K-150K in six months, and then relax the rest of the year. I didn’t embrace our potential for 3-4 years, because I was so burned out from Corporate America.
