Today we’d like to introduce you to Temple Lester.
Temple, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am the 13-year old creator of “STEM Girl Swag”. At a very early age, I expressed an interest in science. In 3rd grade, I launched www.JustTemple.com, a website dedicated to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). My goal was to encourage more of her peers to take an interest in science, especially girls. I currently provide free workshops, seminars, and motivational talks to get youth involved in STEM. My “STEM Girl Swag” movement is a way to get youth excited about how “cool” science can be. My workshops are full of fun activities and exciting science experiments. Through volunteerism and social media, I have exposed over 10,000 people to STEM!
I have received many awards and honors. She was named to the 2020 Broadcom MASTERS® top 10% of middle school science fair participants in the nation. I was featured in Atlanta Intown Paper, spotlighting the 11th annual 20 Under 20 honorees. DeKalb Chamber of Commerce honored me as its 2019 Youth Entrepreneur of the Year. In 2017, she was the Georgia Science Teachers Association (GSTA) STEM-Talk winner. The Corporate Volunteer Council (Atlanta) recognized my leadership and innovation by presenting her with the prestigious 2019 Carol D. Reiser Youth Service Award. I have delivered keynote speeches for numerous schools and organizations including Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. I was recently featured in the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture 2020 digital showcase for her award-winning documentary about Shirley Chisholm.
I created the “STEM Swag Box” in 2019 to make STEM-education fun! My science kit is exploding with hands-on experiments. It’s the coolest science kit ever! My science kits are available online and I have sold them to people all over.
Has it been a smooth road?
My age has been the biggest obstacle. People don’t always take me seriously because of my age. However, when they talk to me and hear my passion and knowledge, they pay more attention.

My company sells science kits and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education items. The thing that sets me apart is that my products are created for kids by a kid. I am most proud of my “STEM Swag Box” because it makes science-education in a fun way.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love my city because it’s so much diversity and exciting things happening. The thing that I like least about my city is the traffic.
