Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Lens.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Timothy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got started with film by shooting a couple of music videos using only an iPhone 6 almost two years ago. I received pretty good feedback on the visuals which prompted me to start studying film. It wasn’t until around August of last year that I decided to quit my 9 to 5 and go into video production full-time.
The music videos was a great stepping stone for me to eventually get starting in film production. I’ve worked on a few film production sets doing PA, grip, and bts work. I still shoot music videos, but really on rare occasions. I am currently working on a series based in Atlanta set to release August 1, 2020, and I will also start production on a new series in Minneapolis, MN in the spring of 2021.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would say the road has been pretty smooth for the most part. My struggles along the way, we’re really just trying to find my niche within the film world. Around the time I got started, I was all over the place trying to figure out if I wanted to be the writer, editor, director, photographer, pretty much any and every role. Eventually, I landed in the director’s chair, while there’s still challenges along my journey, most are minuscule.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Timothy Lens Films is my company, and I specialize in film production. Currently known for music video production and some photography, but quickly transitioning into being known for Directing short film, web series, and much more film-related ventures. Right now, I am most proud of the progress of my brand, starting from only an iPhone to where I’m at today is the most rewarding feeling. I think a big thing that has set me apart is my willingness to help others within my line of work to build something big rather than competing with them. Where I’m originally from in the Midwest people are really competitive to the point of discrediting another person’s work, so my humbleness is what sets me apart.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
As far as film, I don’t foresee any major changes other than quality getting better with the progression of technology. With new and more advanced tech, a lot of production have been made easier and quicker.
