Meet Carlos Dwayne

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Dwayne.

Carlos, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started singing, writing songs, and dancing at a very young age. I grew up in the church and was always apart of the choir or dance groups at church. My father was a singer, songwriter, and minister of music that took his craft very seriously and taught me a lot of what I know when it comes to music. By the time I got to middle school, I was heavy into musical theater and school concerts. That boosted my confidence and made me grow to love performing even more. After high school I took a step back from music because I wanted to focus on modeling and sports in college, so for a while, I was not using my voice or performing musically. I moved to LA in 2017 to chase modeling, acting, and dance but life brought me back to Charlotte when my father passed away unexpectedly that same year. It was that moment that music became my outlet and my life. I jumped back into music very heavy and began my journey as an artist. Music has always been something that was comforting for me, and a place I can feel free to express myself.

In February 2018, I released my very first song ever, and May 2018, I released my first EP. Since then, I have been blessed to gain a fan base, release more music, and perform on several stages. Going into year three of music has been a journey. There have been some struggles, sacrifices, low points, and celebrations that have come from this so far. I have had to sacrifice so much time and money into perfecting my craft and really pushing myself. There have been a lot of sleepless nights, moments of doubt, and questioning myself but I am still standing. I always remind myself how blessed I am to be at this point, and how far I’ve come. I’ve had some very rewarding moments, met some great people, and accomplished a lot. I keep pushing every day knowing that my music is touching someone and one day the world will know Carlos Dwayne and my music will live in the hearts of people.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. I have had so many doors closed in my face and heard the word no so many times. However, I keep pushing, knowing that the right doors will open at the right time. On the other hand, I’ve had some great opportunities come my way, and have been put in spaces I’ve dreamed of years ago. I have had to work hard and invest into myself, and because of that there are some things that I had to give up. There are moments where I would question if this is what I’m supposed to be doing, but then someone will tell me how a song touched them and I know I’m doing exactly what I’m made to do.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a singer, songwriter, dancer, model, and choreographer. I am so proud of who I am as an artist because it’s genuine and authentic. I never try to conform to sound like or be anything outside of me, and everything I do comes from a very real place. It makes me so happy to know that people listen to my music and relate to it, or have some type of emotion evoked. I don’t try to have the popular sound. I just try to perfect my sound.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the fact that Atlanta has so many opportunities and spaces for people to be creative. I do think that as with any city, including my hometown Charlotte, there is more room for growth when it comes to unity and helping the next person grow rather than tearing them down to go higher.
