Today we’d like to introduce you to Danica Egan.
Danica, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in northern New Jersey in a suburb of New York City. I have been creating art since I was a baby. There are even still crayon scribbles all over my crib! From a young age, I was surrounded by the arts, and I always wanted to be an artist. I was luckily raised with a lot of support from friends and family who helped me solidify my goals of becoming a full-time artist. In 2011 I moved to south central Pennsylvania to attend art college and pursue my dream.
Egan Arts was started in 2015, the same year that I graduated college. I graduated from Pennsylvania College of Art and Design with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts. I quickly began entering into local gallery shows after leaving school to keep myself creating. I made a pact to myself that I would try to be in at least five shows a year. By doing so I was able to create connections with local galleries, and in turn, a few local artists who were in these same shows. Using the internet and social media, I was able to expand my audience and I began to make commissions as well.
For the last five years, I’ve been slowly growing my online presence and commission intake as a means for income. Because of this, I’ve found myself being able to make more artwork over the years, and I now have a full studio where I can create my art.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not always been smooth. There have absolutely been some rough patches and some deep potholes.
Things within my domestic life have absolutely spilled over into my creative life and caused some delays. I’ve had to move around a lot, change jobs a lot, and even start over after losing almost all of my money. These things have definitely caused some delays for me when making my art and advancing my career. One of my commissions had moved around to four different residences and took over two years to complete because of things not working out in my domestic life.
Despite these challenges, I still find ways to make my art, whether it be a little doodle or a large painting. The important thing is to stay creative and always keep making, even if it’s in a small way.
Please tell us more about your art.
Egan Arts is a single female artist making her way in the art world. I specialize in quite a few things actually. I really enjoy drawing, creating murals, and painting; but I even make customized pixelated magnets and emotes for Twitch streamers!
Although my scope of work can vary greatly, one thing that is consistent is my quality craftsmanship. I pride myself on creating well-crafted work with clean lines and making sure my customer is 100% satisfied. My drive to create a quality end product sets me apart and is what keeps my customers coming back for more.
Whether I’m making a custom painting, painting a mural, or creating a logo, you can expect quality and professionalism from me.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The art industry is always shifting and evolving. It’s nearly impossible to predict trends or shifts in this industry.
One thing that was surprising was how the art world was treated during this current pandemic. I expected this pandemic to decimate the art world since everyone’s funds were low from being out of work. But to my surprise, the art world has been flourishing. Maybe it has caused people to realize the importance of art because I noticed a large uptick in sales for myself.
This industry is truly unpredictable, but it is certainly a viable one. For my business, I’d like to have had at least one solo show at a gallery within the next 5-10 years, or I’d like to take part in a residency.
