Meet Johnakeshia Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnakeshia Thompson.

Johnakeshia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Johnakeshia, and I am from Jacksonville, FL. My love for fashion started at a young age but wasn’t pursued until 2009, after a failed attempt at fashion school, I started styling and built a style portfolio which consists of tearsheets from several magazines. During my years of styling, I began to fall in love with editorial spreadsheets and decided that I wanted to go back to school and pursue a degree in journalism so that I can become a fashion editor.

After, I graduated, I relocated to Atlanta in pursuit of becoming a fashion journalist. After applying to several companies and having no luck, I begin taking my blogging seriously and decided that I would build my own fashion platform known as Johnakeshia.com. On my website, I feature fashion-related posts, such as style finds, fashion DIYs and lifestyle topics. My readers know me as the style spy because I am always spying on the latest trends and designers. My signature topics consist of fashion DIY’s, where I recreate designer items and the feed where I highlight different designers.

My love for DIY launched my bling line by the name of Glitz and Glam by Jk. I customized everything from shoes to mask. On March 1st, my business went viral after Jayda Cheaves and her bestie wore my bling mask. From there, other artists wore my mask and I was featured in Fashion Bomb Daily top 35 mask list.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There is an old saying that says, “anything worth having isn’t easy and anything that comes easy isn’t worth having.” With that being said, this has been one of the hardest tasks in my life but my love for it is what keeps me going. I believe there is something amazing about a person who refuses to quit, no matter how many obstacles they face. I am that person. I refuse to quit until I see my dreams of reality.

Alright – so let’s talk business.  What else should we know about you and your career so far?
I am a fashion blogger and I own a clothing store by the name of Jakyt. Jakyt houses a bling line by the name of Glitz and Glam by Jk and a streetwear line that’s coming soon by the name of John K. I am known for recreating designer items on my fashion blog and designing bling items for the woman who loves a little EXTRAness.

One of my favorite sayings is, “when you look good, you feel good.” I believe in this statement wholeheartedly and as a company, I am proud to be the voice for the woman who is between sizes, the woman who doesn’t know what to wear or how to wear certain looks. The woman who loves to be EXTRA or the woman who is on a budget but loves nice things. I provide all of these things and therefore helping other women look and feel their best is what sets me apart from other people.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had a chance to start over, I wouldn’t start over because I have failed my way up. Every failure has taught me a lesson and has instilled a little more wisdom into me so that I can help someone else.
