Meet Classie Kelise

Today we’d like to introduce you to Classie Kelise.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Classie. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up as an athlete myself, balancing the athlete’s life and my regular life was almost like having a superpower lol. I grew up in Detroit, Michigan, with elite athletes who played basketball, football, baseball, ran track, etc. Some of them I knew personally or knew mutually so when I seen them on TV or any type of media/news outlet I’m like “Hey, I know them! like, see them everyday know them.”

Detroit is such a hard city to make it out of. I’m well aware there are other cities like that but being from and growing up in Detroit, you have a different type of mentality. So sports for some people were their way out of Detroit, and to see young athletes in the midst of all the chaos that went on in Detroit, to have a plan, stick with it, and succeed, it gives hope. The media only portrays the athlete in their sport but not the behind the scenes, such as what it took to get there, or them just having fun with their friends and I wanted to highlight that. Some athletes I know are by far some of the greatest people I’ve ever met.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve started this journey during the quarantine. So all internships were canceled, that showed me to start on my own I can’t just sit around and wait on a handout. My first ever interviewee’s were AJ Terrell Jr, and Xavier McKinney, I made a documentary of them leading up until the draft day. So that was pretty exciting. It has been a smooth road but I know to get to where I want to be, it won’t always be, but I’m prepared for it.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a Sports Reporter. I’m most proud of my brand for always betting on myself, and not being afraid to just go for whatever it is that catches my eye. What sets me apart from others is I make my interviewees feel so comfortable to the point when we’re at the end they’ll forget it was an interview, it feels like we were just having a conversation.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I’m relatively new to Atlanta and I’ve been pretty successful since I’ve been here. I’ve met some great people, networking here is crazy easy. If someone was starting out with any business here, I’d recommend Atlanta.
