Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Smith.
Nicole, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After working my way up the corporate ladder in Finance, and feeling burnt out, I realized that I didn’t want to spend any more time NOT going after my dreams. I was always very interested in the spa industry, so I started thinking of ways that I could be involved. I had no idea how to go about opening a spa, but after researching business options, I found out about the awesomeness of the franchise business model. With franchise ownership, you are still an entrepreneur but you can capitalize on the guidance and business model of the franchise, which has already done most of the heavy lifting of starting a business. In 2016, I became a full-time entrepreneur and took the first steps toward opening spa810.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been many challenges along the way! Even the best project plan will never go as planned! From lease negotiation, to permitting, to licensing, to setting up the proper tax accounts, the list of action items required before you can even open is long. My construction build out had many challenges since there were so many contractors to coordinate.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the spa810 Atlantic Station story. Tell us more about the business.
spa810 is very proud to offer a Remarkable Spa Experience, with state-of-the-art technology, unlike anyone else. Our services include massage, facials and laser hair removal. spa810 Atlantic Station is a luxurious medical spa with cutting edge beauty technology including SkinPen micro-needling, HydraFacial, and virtually pain-free laser hair removal services. Our Alma Soprano Ice laser, which removes hair from a broad spectrum of skin tones, has an 810 diode. That is actually where we get our name from (spa810).
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
While developing the business mostly happened through perseverance and determination, there is always an element of luck and timing for everything. When I envisioned my first location, I wanted to be near Atlantic Station. Not only am I near, I am IN Atlantic Station. Pure Luck!
