Alisia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Hi! My name is Alisia, owner of Alisia Amor, a beauty brand that I founded to promote individual style, encourage creativity, and assure each guest experience is personalized and memorable. I was raised in Baltimore MD, and currently live in Philadelphia, PA. Even though I’ve done hair all my life, I ended up in healthcare for 7 years before finally deciding to turn my passion into a career. I am so grateful for my healthcare experience. It has made me disciplined and attentive which is perfect for the beauty industry. With the support of my family, friends, and fiancé, I was able to obtain my cosmetology license and begin my journey. I am currently licensed in New York, Pennsylvania and Nevada. I’ve grown my business from selling bundles, to advanced custom units for a more
personalized approach. I offer classes for new stylists to learn things from social media marketing to wig construction. I’m a Professional Beauty Association -Beacon alumni 2018. A member of Philly Fashion Week hair team. A member of the Amika Stylist League. I have made custom wigs for tv personalities, and have meet some incredible people during my journey. I am certified in too many things to write out, because I believe continuing education is a must in this industry. My goal is to give each and every client who sits in my chair or purchase my products/services the confidence they need to go about their day chin up and all smiles.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely has not been easy! I was so nervous to start a career so late in life. I was in beauty school surrounded by younger kids. I was the oldest in class and wondered what was I doing there lol. A year prior to going to school I lost my birth mom to cancer. I remember how devastated she was about losing her hair. How important her hair was to her? So, I kept pushing and anytime I needed a reminder, I think back to her and remember how valuable it is to make someone feel beautiful. You never know what people are doing though and how something we see as simple, has such an impact on their lives.
Please tell us about your business.
My business specializes in unique, custom beauty. Extensions and hair-color. I am known for my beautiful vivid wigs. Each wig is created for a specific look or person. I am most proud of my commitment to encourage creativity in every unit I make. To help others try that daring color that that were too scared to try. To make them feel confident and adventurous in the creative choices they make.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is the first time I did box braids on myself lol they were TERRIBLE but I thought it was the best thing in the world. I was just so proud that I did it myself. Even if the braids were different sizes and unraveling.
