Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikita Thomas.
Nikita, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It was all a dream, seriously. Baking has always been a childhood hobby turned into a dream come true. For years I’ve always had a passion for baking and treat making. Just like most girls, I started off with an Easy-Bake Oven. As I got older, baking became more of a “business goal.” After graduating high school in 2010, I got a job at a pizza place in Lithonia. Yes, making the pizza dough was my favorite. It wasn’t until 2017 I got paid to do a cake and I decided to take a leap of faith and got started on my business. Fast forward to 2020, business has grown so much. My last job as a security guard was my last 9-5 job. In April, I decided to bake full time. It was my calling and I went for it. Kupcake’s Sweet Boutique accepts Personal and event orders. You’ll also catch me at local pop up shops. Within the last year, I’ve started the process to obtain permits.
Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, things been smooth. Of course, business has its slow days, good days, bad days. The most challenging year has been 2020 due to Covid 19. Many events were cancelled, stores were empty, packages got delayed etc. During the pandemic, I was able to keep busy due to small orders and I had time to experiment with new recipes. The good outweighed the bad of course.

Kupcake’s Sweet Boutique is a sweet shop. Homemade baked goods (cakes, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, pies, etc.) and sweet treats (candy grapes, apples, chocolate covered Oreos and more). We’re mostly known for moist and addictive cakes. Even the icing is homemade. Right now, our top seller is the Strawberry cheesecake crunch cake (the middle cake layer is a homemade baked cheesecake) and “The Party Package” is another top seller. Great for parties. In that package you receive a cake, cupcake and selective sweet treat items. I am most proud of the business as a whole. Customer service is outstanding, every order is made to order. Every item is guaranteed FRESH, and I take pride in what I do.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I feel like our city is a good place for business. This city is built off of hustle and grind. If you have the right mindset and remain focus, this is the place to be. Atlanta is a huge city meaning many opportunities.
