Meet Tejal Thomas of BT Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tejal Thomas.

Tejal, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always loved working with people and assisting people to be the best version of themselves. For the last ten years I have been working in Human Resources doing just that, However, after having my second child I lost confidence in myself with my responsibilities at home and my body was no longer what I was used to. In 2015, I decided to start working out to lose the “baby weight” and I have not looked back since then. I began posting my workout and routines on Instagram in 2018 and I started getting questions from other moms and women about what keeps me motivated, what to eat, what workouts to do and I would always let them know I was not certified and did not feel comfortable giving advice.

I realized that fitness was becoming a passion of mine and I enjoyed seeing women look and feel their best or as I say “looking goodT” and I wanted to be able to assist them to do just that. I got certified as a Personal Trainer and Nutrition Specialist in October 2019. Currently, BT Fitness does live 30-day virtual boot camps from the comfort of your home to keep women in shape while they are at home wearing the many hats they do.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are definitely challenges every day. One of the challenges that was a tough decision for me was making time to take on another responsibility of wearing another hat. I’m a wife, a mom, and I still work Full Time in Human Resources. My family is very demanding because they are active in school and extracurricular activities and my Full-Time job is demanding because sometimes, I have to travel. I am constantly juggling my time but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I enjoy seeing people happy and shining from the inside out and if that sometimes takes some time away from my personal time, I am just fine with that.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
As a mom myself of two boys by C-section and a female struggling with fibroids. I understand a lot of the struggles because I go through them myself. I know how hard it is to get a flat stomach after having a cesarean section. Been there done that but it is a different process for everyone. I still have issues maintaining a flat stomach because of fibroids and have personally changed my diet to maintain their growth. I work best with moms/women by helping them make time to get their confidence back. Sometimes women get lost in taking care of everyone else they forget about themselves. I specialize in postpartum fitness, weight loss and healthy weight gaining and nutrition. From what I am sent in messages on Instagram, people say they enjoy my content because I am uplifting, transparent and honest. I post the good, bad and in between.

What were you like growing up?
I was a military child growing up. My mother joined the Army when I was four. I traveled a lot inside and outside the United States. I had a great opportunity to see the world and learn new cultures. Unfortunately, I was always the new kid and that forced me to be social when I did not want to be because I was an introvert. However, I always used to get into some type of trouble like burning all my hair off just like Michael Jackson or running into a cornfield with my go-cart.

As I got older, I got into playing sports for a real quick second but realized that was not my interest because I was too busy worrying about socializing and how my hair looked. However, during those times I built some great friendships. All my friends were always so surprised of how well I did in school because I always liked to hang out and party. They did not see me getting up at 2AM to study or do my homework. I have always understood priorities and sacrifices. I got an academic scholarship to college and maintained it throughout my years there, even while continuing to enjoy college.

My mom always says she is so surprised of how I transformed to who I am today because of how introverted I was as a young kid. She always says I definitely blossomed.
