Meet Demetre Durham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetre Durham.

Demetre, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m an artist originally from NYC. I moved to Nashville, TN, during grade school and went on to college for animation there as well. While in college, I drove down to ATL to train in dance at least twice a month. I went on to do a few music videos and projects pretty frequently, which made it clear that it was time to move.

While dancing, I still was doing my thing as a cartoonist with designing and working on my own cartoon. I created my business, where I handmade pins with my art on them. I went to LA to do some projects there as well. It seems like I was going back and forth between ATL & LA. While in LA, I picked up acting where I’ve also had a few gigs in ATL because it’s apparently cheaper to film there. Overall I’ve been thriving with my pin business, Pin Magic, my dancing and acting career. I’m looking forward to growing in all aspects.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not too smooth. Trying to build clientele between ATL & LA is complicated. Also with COVID 19 it out a hold on things!

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a cartoonist/designer. Graphics and logos are what I’m mostly doing along with working on my cartoon. I’m also a professional dancer where I perform in music videos, performances and other gigs. I’ve also been acting and have been in a few series and short films as well. My business is called ‘Pin Magic’ I made handmade pins with my art on them. Cool, inspirational sayings and pictures too.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Getting recognized abs reposted by celebrities such as Taraji P Henson and Tracee Ellis Ross.
