Meet Gabrielle Smith of The Thought Trainer Life Coaching in West Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Smith.

Gabrielle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Even as a little girl, I was obsessed with understanding people and how our minds work – why we do what we do. However, when it was time to decide on a major in college, I did like many others and instead of following my passion, I made the decision based on what I thought I was supposed to do. After years of working in the Information Technology (IT) field, I reached a point where I started to dread going to work every day. I was miserable. I loved the people I worked with, but I did not enjoy the work. However, I did not know what kind of work I would enjoy.

Well, I had an idea, but I had invested so much time and money into my career that it was difficult to entertain any other possibilities. Not to mention that I had grown accustomed to my lifestyle and did not see a way to maintain that by following a passion. God has a way of transforming our minds in such a way that things we once saw as impossible are now inevitable. I attended a 3-day personal development workshop and for the first time, believed in the possibility of living my dream of studying the mind and helping people live their dream. Shortly after, I got certified as a Life and Purpose Coach, where I help career-driven women find a career in their zone of genius.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with anything worth having, there are definitely struggles. The biggest challenge has been managing my time between being a wife and a mother while working a full-time job and running my coaching business. They all require my attention and ensuring that each gets the attention it needs is important to me. It is a work in progress and having a supportive family definitely helps.

As an entrepreneur, my success depends on me. I’m responsible for getting clients, I’m responsible for coaching clients, and I’m responsible for running my business. As a coach who helps others with their lives, I’m responsible for showing up at 100% at all times. Regardless of how I feel or what I may be dealing with, I have to be that safe space for them and guide them through their challenges. For that hour, what I’m going through does not matter. The only thing that matters in that moment is that I help them feel better. And I love being that for them.

There are times when I get overwhelmed with it all, but my faith keeps me going. I know that God has entrusted me with this assignment and it is one that I have a lot of fun with, but also one that I take very seriously. I’m also blessed to have my own coaches who help me to navigate my life.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
At The Thought Trainer Life Coaching, I work with women who are unfulfilled in their careers and know that there is more that they should be doing but they just don’t know what. I help them find purpose by helping them find work in their zone of genius. They no longer dread going to work every day. They feel like they are making an impact. They get to create the level of freedom and flexibility that they desire. They live the life of their dreams.

I am most proud that I can help other women achieve in six months what took me years to figure out for myself, relieving them of their suffering much quicker.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Oh, man, I have so many! Most of them include my late Granny, who introduced me to God and gave me my first bible. She would have me at all the church events ever created, from Sunday School to Sunday Service to choir practice to BTU to Bible Study to church conventions to revivals to Vacation Bible School. I think she was trying to keep me away from the boys. Her phrase to my cousins and me every single day would be, “Leave them boys alone and get your lesson.” It stuck with me. I would make time for boys, but my education always came first.
