Meet MVRXXN (maroon) in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to MVRXXN (maroon).

Maroon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a 23 years old music producer, audio engineer, from Stuart Florida, a town north of West Palm Beach. I started producing at the age of 12 which makes that about 11 years. In the earlier years, when I was around 14-15 I started posting my music to SoundCloud and began networking through the power of the internet. With a lot of patience and effort, I eventually linked up with a group called “SCARECROW6” thru social media and was given the chance to create beats for some of their artists. This was a really exciting experience for me because I was finally starting to make progress, and it felt great to hear artists on my beats. They eventually invited me into their collective at the time and I’m still apart of the label today. Thru the power of that and the confidence I had in myself, I was able to reach out to other artists in the SoundCloud scene and make a name for myself, working with many upcoming SoundCloud artists from the South Florida scene, as well as Lost Appeal and Scarecrow6.

Fast forward about three years as I was graduating high school, I went to a community college for a semester where I realized that a normal college experience just wasn’t for me. Every day felt miserable and I felt like I wasn’t making any progress. One day I got a phone call from a family member who offered me the chance to move to Kennesaw, Georgia and I knew it was my chance to get my foot in the door and start a new life. Within a two weeks period of that phone call, I quit my job, ended a relationship, and set off to ATL by myself at 18… It was a really hard but exciting experience for me because I didn’t know what to expect, yet I left so much behind. For the first few months, things were slow, mainly because I didn’t know how to network and I felt like I was in the middle of nowhere. After commuting to Atlanta alone looking for events for about eight months. I eventually gave in and moved to midtown and started an education at the SAE Institute of Atlanta, where I obtained an associate’s degree in Audio Engineering.

At SAE, I learned a lot about sound design, mixing and mastering, and most importantly, how to network. I utilized studio time as much as I could and made a lot of music there, Staying late nights in the studio and working on my craft. During the duration of my time at SAE, I DJ’d events, networked, and starting meeting artists and producers who made similar music to mine. It was so sick because we all came together and worked on music in the studios until the sun came up. I truly made some lifelong friends and I’ll never forget those times. After many months of grinding a lot of us in the scene started getting contacted by major record companies and getting opportunities to do big things. A lot of us were baffled with what was going on at the time and to me personally it all felt so fast. I remember being in a studio session with “Mike Will Made It” and us looking around the room in lowkey shock lol.

We all realized that we got ourselves into a place that many artists and producers would give a lot for and I personally felt very grateful for that. Throughout my experience with that, I was eventually able to send my beats to A&R’s and managers of artists such as Swae Lee, Bryson Tiller, Wiz Khalifa, etc. Getting placements with artists of this caliber truly showed me that anything is possible with hard work. To date, I have produced and worked with artists from Mike Will Made It, Playboi Carti, Wiz Khalifa, and Awful Records to name a few. I’ve realized a lot throughout my hard work and although not every placement ends up working out, I always go into a project with the mindset of “anything can happen” but it doesn’t hold me back from moving forward. I continue to strive for the best and do what I can to help the ones who helped me. I’m forever grateful for my opportunities and what Atlanta has brought to the table for me.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of the struggles I found myself in was being patient. Music can take a long time and there is projects of mine that have been sitting for years. Dealing with labels as an independent producer can also be hard without proper representation.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the owner of an independent record label called “Red Records”. We strive to create amazing music for commercial use as well as production for the industry. We just like to have fun with it and not take ourselves too seriously when it comes to making the “perfect song”. It’s more of a friendly relationship than a business one.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as doing whatever it is in life that makes you happy and being able to sustain and live life to the fullest from it. I feel it is really important that you are always doing what you love and making sure that you are always taking care of your mental. When it comes to music goals, once I have a song with Bieber then I’ll know I made it lmao.
