Meet Jeffrey Marx of Piedmont National

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeffrey Marx.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jeffrey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My great grandfather fled Nazi Germany in 1938 and came to the US. He started our company in 1950. Now my father is the CEO and my grandfather is the Chairman of the Board. I was born and raised in Atlanta and went to the University of Georgia. I’ve been working for the family business since I graduated in 2011 and we’ve now grown to 15 locations across 7 states and are about to hit 250 employees. Piedmont National is a packaging distributor focused on aiding companies with end of the line automation and e-commerce solutions. In my free time, I love trying out the new restaurants in town (I’d put Atlanta up there with almost any city in the country these days on food and am the go-to for restaurant recommendations for my friends and family). I’m engaged to be married next June in Philadelphia to my wonderful fiancé Jessica.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a family business but growing rapidly since my dad took over, we’ve definitely had some growth struggles. We always strive to keep the same core values we’ve had since we were one small location in Atlanta. We strive to do big business the family way, but sometimes that can be challenging as you try to expand the business.

Please tell us about Piedmont National.
Piedmont National provides packaging and shipping supplies as well as packaging equipment and machinery. We have a real strength surrounding end of the line automation for manufacturers, distributors, and e-commerce companies. We have service technicians to support our customers with preventative maintenance on their machines and to respond when they need help immediately. We pride ourselves on having some of the best packaging engineers in the country that can evaluate a business’s end of the line packaging and from start to finish install a solution to get product out the door and to their customer’s more efficiently.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Doing an 11 day safari in Kenya, which led me to start college off as a Wildlife major. I watched Big Cat Diary (a show about lions, cheetahs, and leopards in Africa) every day for the next two years. I wanted to have my own tv show on Animal Planet like Jeff Corwin. A career path I’m sure my grandpa wasn’t for. I later ended up with an Economics degree.
