Today we’d like to introduce you to Javona Smith.
Javona, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always wanted to start my own business. I remember seeing other girls who do makeup or hair, or sell lashes or clothes and feeling really inspired by them, just dreaming about owning something of my own. I’ve worked regular jobs since I was 16 always been about my bag always worked for other people when I got pregnant with my second child I knew it was finally time to start something of my own make my own hours, make more money just be my own boss. So I’m looking around thinking of what I could do and I came across a nail page who mentioned classes in a post and at the time I didn’t know you could take a nail class without going to school so that’s when I looked into it more I did my research on professional nail techs and self taught nail techs.
I was constantly on YouTube looking up nail videos all hours of the night and I was hooked so I looked around for a nail class near me and once I found one I liked I took it. It was hard at first but practice makes perfect and I had the best nail teacher after taking the nail class I was in love with all things nails that’s all I talked about with practicing for a while I felt I was finally ready to throw myself in the fire and take a few clients on to get a feel of it. But of course it cost money to make money, and nail supplies is not cheap so I was frustrated thought I don’t know how I’m gonna be able to pay for all this stuff and start, but I prayed and asked god if this is for me help me find a way. And he did just that I was blessed and I was able to get everything I needed and more. And finally got to open up VonaNailedIt.
Has it been a smooth road?
With still being a beginner, it has and has not been a smooth road there are times when I get discouraged because a nail isn’t coming out a certain way or one of my clients says their nail came off. But I know for a fact I get better every day and I have real supporters/clients who believe in me and see something in me, and that is what keeps me going knowing I get better every day and knowing people will ride with me through the rough stages as I come up, I love what I do and no matter what I’ll never stop.
We’d love to hear more about VonaNailedIt.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like most about my city is how much people support each other total strangers can give you so much hope and push you to keep going. What I like least is that there are a lot of negative people who don’t want to see other people make it for their own unhappy, selfish reasons.
